Nicole Kidman is being hotly tipped to play Grace Kelly in a forthcoming film about the legendary 1950′s actress who later married into European royalty.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Australian actress is “in negotiations” to play the lead in Grace of Monaco. Producer Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, who producing and financing the picture, is reportedly keen to secure Kidman’s services for the indie flick.

Many parts of Grace Kelly’s life would prove ripe for a big screen retelling; the actress who became Alfred Hitchcock’s favorite blonde (she appeared in Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, and To Catch a Thief) and married Prince Rainier of Monaco in 1955 died in a car crash in 1982. Yet Grace of Monaco will focus on a specific period in Kelly’s storied life: a six-month period in 1962 when the 33-year-old actress-turned-royal worked behind the scenes to prevent a French-led coup in Monaco.

The film’s projected release date is 2014, and confirmed performers include Tim Roth, Parker Posey, Milo Ventimiglia, Paz Vega and Robert Lindsay. Alfred Hitchcock will also be portrayed in the film by Roger Ashton-Griffiths.
