Lady Gaga Reveals The Identity Of ‘Joanne,’ As She Sets Up Tour

It has been three years since Lady Gaga released a new studio album with 2013’s ARTPOP album achieving little commercial success, but she now has a new album to offer fans. Ms. Gaga talks about Joanne, her soon to be released offering, and what inspired the album title, as well as what Joanne‘s tracks mean for the celebrated pop star. Lady Gaga also shares news of a planned tour, but one that will give fans a much more intimate setting in which to appreciate Gaga’s past hits and new singles.

Lady Gaga Reveals The Inspiration For Joanne

In speaking with People, Lady Gaga shares that Joanne is her most revealing album to date, because, in writing the songs for her new album, Gaga has drawn from her deepest and rawest emotions. She also says the tracks on Joanne are largely autobiographical. In describing what Joanne means to her, Lady Gaga says the new collection of songs are all about a journey, but not in a literal sense. Instead, Gaga looks inward to explore parts of herself with which she felt she had lost touch.

“Returning to your family and where you came from, and your history, this is what makes you strong. It’s not looking out that’s going to do that – it’s looking in,” Ms. Gaga said. “Joanne is a progression for me. It was about going into the studio and forgetting that I was famous.”

So, how did Lady Gaga settle on Joanne as the title for her new album? There was a real Joanne, says Gaga. She was Joanne Germanotta, who would have been Gaga’s aunt, had she lived beyond 19-years-old. Joanne Germanotta passed away from complications of Lupus.

Family wasn’t the only aspect of her life to influence the music on Joanne. Lady Gaga says the men in her life, including Taylor Kinney, have also impacted the sounds and themes of Joanne.

“When you listen to the album, it’s clear the influence that all the men in my life have made on this record. That’s at the center of it, as well: I always wanted to be a good girl. And Joanne was such a good girl,” Gaga says. “But I have such a rebellious spirit, and my father was always very angry. He drank because of his sister’s death. I was trying to understand him through making this record, and in that, also trying to understand why I love men that are cowboys.”

Lady Gaga Is Coming To A Dive Bar Near You

Rolling Stone reports that Lady Gaga is set to hit the road on her Bud Light x Lady Gaga Dive Bar Tour, which means she’ll be performing in a more intimate setting, but it also means capacity will be limited for each concert. Bud Light and Lady Gaga have come up with the perfect solution so that fans won’t miss out on the performance. Fans can watch the premiere performance of “Million Reasons,” on a live stream on Bud Light’s Facebook page when Lady Gaga kicks off the tour on Wednesday, October 5, at 10:00 p.m. EDT at an undisclosed dive bar.

Performing at small dive bars across the country seems limiting for someone of Lady Gaga’s popularity and appeal, but, as the Joanne artist indicated in a recent statement, this tour is all about reconnecting with her fans and getting back to her roots.

“My first performances were in dive bars in New York City and around the country, so working with Bud Light to go back to my roots to perform songs from my new album Joanne is such an exciting way to connect with my fans and share this music with them for the first time,” says Lady Gaga.

While all of the locations for this mini tour remain undisclosed, there are three confirmed dates so far. In addition to the October 5 date, Lady Gaga has added October 20 and October 27 to her schedule.

Lady Gaga will release Joanne on October 21.
