‘Destiny’ Guide: How To Get The Khvostov 7G-OX Exotic Rifle

With Destiny: Rise of Iron serving as the last expansion to the game, Bungie gives PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players a thank you via the Khvostov 7G-OX Exotic Quest. The quest turns the very first gun obtained by Guardians into an Exotic Weapon and comes with several poignant moments with the player’s Ghost.

The Khvostov 7G-OX is the most configurable weapon yet in Destiny. Players will have the option to choose between the Auto Rifle, Pulse Rifle, and Scout Rifle archetypes while also choosing its rate of fire.

Step 1: Obtain the Khvostov 7G-OX Schematic

There are two ways to get the Khvostov 7G-OX Schematic. This first is by dismantling the original Khvostov Auto Rifle you received when you first started your character. That may have required some foresight or the willingness to start a new character just to obtain the weapon.

The second way is by picking up a Splicer Intel Relay that is dropped by Broodmother Wizards in the Plaguelands Patrol. They spawn regularly in the Lord’s Watch zone where you spawn in Patrol, which make it easy to pick up one.

Now head back to the wall breach zone where your character first starts Destiny. Spawn in at Lord’s Watch and go from Foundry 113 to Rocket Yard to The Divide and The Breach. You’ll come across a door barred by lasers as you make your way back toward the outside of the wall. This is where you’ll need to use the Splicer Intel Relay to continue.

Once the door is opened, continue outside the wall and you’ll see a Fallen Ketch at the top of the hill where your Guardian spawned the very first time. Make your way onto the Ketch and kill everything. Once all the minions are dead, a chest will spawn in the corner containing the Khvostov 7G-OX Schematic.

Step 2: Take the Khvostov 7G-OX Schematic to Shiro in Felwinter’s Peak

Go to the Felwinter’s Peak social area and visit Shiro. He’ll take the schematic from you and give you a new quest to complete.

Step 3: Start the ‘We Found a Rifle’ Quest

There are two parts to the first half of the “We Found a Rifle” quest. Both involve visiting the Plaguelands Patrol once more.

Collect 10 Manual Pages for Khvostov 7G-OX – These are simply collected by killing Fallen and Hive anywhere on the Plaguelands Patrol. It can also be done in the Archon’s Forge for those that want to try to get as much done as once. Alternatively, most if not all can be collected while collecting the other set of items needed.

Collect 3 Weapon Parts for Khvostov 7G-OX – While in the Plaguelands Patrol, you’ll want to go almost to the original starting point for the Cosmodrome Patrol. Turn right from when you spawn in the Plaguelands and make your way through the Foundry 113, to the Rocketyards, then the Divide, and finally to Dock 13 as your starting point.

Tip: The weapon parts are easily marked by the triangular shaped item icons while roaming around. It will pop up automatically when you are near or you can aim down the sights of your weapon when you are not near but in the same zone.

Weapon Part 3 is located in the Blast where you fight the Devil Walker tank during the Devil’s Lair Strike. It is located on the side of the building that is immediately ahead of where you enter the zone.

Step 4: Complete the mission A Khvostov Rising

This is a straightforward mission in the Plaguelands that takes you through familiar ground, but also has a particularly tough boss. Players will need to hunt down and kill the Splicer Captain, Kaviss, to obtain the final part needed for the Khvostov 7G-OX.

You’ll first encounter him in The Divide. He’s got a tough Void Shield and will move around quickly. A strong Void Heavy Weapon and/or Special Weapon will greatly help along with using your Guardian’s offensive Super abilities to whittle his health down. He will retreat once his health gets low.

The mission will continue to The Breach with the path blocked by SIVA Clouds and Trip Mines that will need to be avoided and destroyed. The final battle will take place inside the broad alley inside the wall. Kaviss will be protected by a pair of Servitors and a host of Fallen Splicers dropping in from Skiffs.

Work your way through the minions while avoiding fire from the Skiff and then concentrate on Kaviss when things are clear. This cycle will repeat until his health is completely drained and the Splicer Captain is killed. He will drop an Exotic Engram that grants you the Khvostov 7G-OX. Make sure you have a free spot in your Primary Weapon grid and then go kill more minons with the weapon to complete the mission and get a touching moment with Ghost.

Afterwards, go speak with Shiro at Felwinter’s Peak one last time to close out the quest.
