A ‘Dynasty’ Reboot Is Coming To The CW – Will Joan Collins Return As Alexis?

Dallas got a reboot four years ago and now it’s time for Dynasty to get its turn. The Hollywood Reporter claims that The CW is bringing back Dynasty and the rumor is they want Joan Collins to reprise the role of Alexis. It isn’t apparent if Alexis would be a main part of the show, yet.

Dynasty was a 1980s primetime soap opera that was set in Denver, Colorado and revolved around the oil-rich billionaire Carrington Family and their rivalry with the Colby family. After Dallas reboot was a smashing success, The CW decided to bring Dynasty back and expect the series to be an instant hit. During the height of Dynasty’s success (from 1981-1989), it was the most watched television series ever. It starred John Forsythe, who passed away six years ago, as Blake Carrington and Linda Evans played his wife, Krystle. Heather Locklear played Sammy Jo Carrington. The most famous character who was both loved and hated by most of the viewers was Blake’s scheming ex-wife, Alexis (Joan Collins).

Daily Mail reports that the reboot will center around the two families—the Carringtons and the Colbys—still feuding over their fortunes and scheming to control their children.

“The Rolls Royce of all primetime soaps, returns in a modernized reboot that follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington — daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington — and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal — a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class. In an age where dynasties appear everywhere — from reality TV to the polling booths — this epic drama features the one percent in all its glitz and gloss while exposing the dark underbelly: a corrupt world built on backroom deals, betrayal, and, in some cases, murder.”

Joan Collins is 83-years-old and is as active as ever. A return to Dynasty’s reboot would not be out of the question, but the real dilemma is, does she have the time to dedicate to Dynasty?

TV Line reports that The CW will put a “new spin” on the original storyline by transforming Krystle Jennings—a young receptionist that married into the rich Carrington family (formerly played by the beautiful Linda Evans) to a Hispanic woman named Cristal Jennings.

Gossip Girl creators, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage alongside Revenge writer and producer, Sallie Patrick will pen the pilot episodes. Original Dynasty creators, Ester and Richard Shapiro will join the writing team to keep the storylines in sync with the soap opera’s 1980’s plot.

The new series will be told from the perspective of two female characters, Fallon Carrington, Blake Carrington’s daughter and, a Hispanic woman named Cristal, who is marrying Fallon’s father, Blake. Fallon believes that Cristal is way out of her league by trying to fit in with Carrington’s family circle of friends.

The CW is no stranger to adapting classic television series and making them a huge success. In 2008, they brought Beverly Hills 90210 back for five seasons and Melrose Place returned for one season in 2009.

Dynasty fans weighed in and weren’t sure how they felt about bringing the series back, especially changing some of the core characters. Many stated they will give it a chance but were disappointed they wanted to change Linda Evans’ character, Krystle, to a Latina named Cristal. With all the changes, viewers stated they wished The CW would have just created a new show, loosely based on Dynasty’s original plot.

Dynasty fans, are you planning on watching reboot series? Dynasty will air on The CW in late 2017.
