Could Britney Spears Join Lady Gaga For The 2017 Super Bowl LI Halftime Show?

Lady Gaga just officially announced that she will be taking on the prestigious halftime show for the 2017 Super Bowl LI, but could Britney Spears already be being lined up as her special guest?

Fans of both artists have been speculating about the chances of Lady Gaga and Spears teaming up to put on a huge Super Bowl show ever since the two popstars’ names were thrown into the mix earlier this year, but is there really a chance Lady Gaga and Britney Spears could perform together?

A number of social media users have been hinting at the possibility of the two teaming up on Twitter, suggesting that there’s a chance Britney could play special guest when Gaga takes to the Super Bowl stage in February.

“The 411 on Superbowl Halftime is Gaga or Britney Spears is taking the stage or they both are,” Twitter user @Brandonr_2298 speculated prior to Gaga’s official announcement earlier this week. “Regardless, it better be frikken amazing.”

“Gaga and Britney are doing the Super Bowl together, bookmark this,” @FeimM added of the possibility of the twosome teaming up, while the team-up conjecture continued as @amiganey tweeted out, “Exclusive: Britney Spears and Lady Gaga to headline together 2017 Super Bowl halftime show!”

The speculation that Britney and Lady Gaga could take to the stage together hit fever pitch this week after Gaga confirmed on Twitter on September 29 that she would be performing the prestigious Super Bowl halftime show when the football game hits Houston, Texas, on February 5, 2017.

“It’s not an illusion. The rumors are true,” Gaga tweeted out after much speculation that she was the NFL’s first pick to perform. “This year the SUPER BOWL goes GAGA! @nfl @FOXTV @pepsi #PERFECTILLUSION #GAGASUPERBOWL.”

Notably, Lady Gaga’s big confirmation came amid swirling rumors suggesting that Spears was also in the running for the Super Bowl halftime show after an insider alleged that Britney was being considered for a “huge event” thought to be the football spectacular.

According to comments posted to PopJustice by a contributor named Goldsounds, Spears and her team were allegedly “in the middle of a big negotiation for a huge event,” for which Britney “has competition,” which fans assumed to be Gaga.

The Spears’ rumors also hit the headlines just weeks after Britney appeared to hint that she could potentially have been in the Super Bowl running during an interview with Britain’s BBC Radio 1, in which she revealed that she would be open to performing the halftime show but only with another artist by her side.

“Yes. I would probably do that,” Britney admitted when asked by the radio host if she would ever take on the Super Bowl halftime show, shortly before Lady Gaga confirmed that she would be performing the 2017 show. “I would have to have a little support group, another artist of course,” continued Spears. “I don’t think you would ever do the Super Bowl alone. That would be kind of scary.”

Those close to Britney, Lady Gaga and the Super Bowl have all stayed tight-lipped when it comes to reports suggesting that Spears could potentially take to the stage alongside the “Perfect Illusion” singer. If Gaga continues to follow the template of previous years, it’s pretty likely that she will perform with another artist in some capacity.

Just last year, Super Bowl headliner Coldplay took to the stage with Beyonce and Bruno Mars during their Super Bowl halftime set, while Super Bowl XLIX the year prior saw headliner Katy Perry team up with Missy Elliot and Lenny Kravitz for a pretty stellar show.
