‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 5 Release Date, Cast News And Spoilers

There will be a lot more from the women of Litchfield because Orange Is the New Black has been renewed for three more seasons.

While the official release date for Season 5 is yet to be announced. The early renewal suggests it will follow the past four seasons and have a release date of June 2017. Series creator and showrunner Jenji Kohan will continue on for Season 5 and we have a lot of burning questions after the amazing installment to the series in 2016.

Let’s talk about the cast. Most of Litchfield’s women will be returning Crazy Eyes, Alex Vause, Piper Chapman, Red, and others.

Some of our favorite cast members ended Season 4 in a precarious position. Lori Petty who plays Lolly was last seen being taken into the psych ward. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lori spoke about her character’s potential return.

“I certainly hope so. I do think we will. I can’t say for sure, but I absolutely think we will. They are just now filming episode one [of season five] and you know how we ended season four. They have a lot to deal with right now! I’m just waiting on the phone call to get back on the plane. I’m sure it will come, but we have 13 episodes and they’ve got a lot to take care of, so we’ll see.”

While there are not a lot of spoilers for Orange is the New Black Season 5, we have a lot to go on with the way Season 4 ended.

We know that Daya got her hands on a gun. Rather than hand it to the Litchfield gangster Maria, Daya has gotten herself into a situation by deciding to control the guards with the gun. What will be the consequences for her actions?

Season 4’s penultimate episode ended in Poussey’s death, which fans of the show are still mourning. While her closest friends got sympathy gifts from other inmates, Taystee lost it when Caputo refused to blame or name Bayley as responsible for Poussey’s death.

Daya’s mom Aleida got released from prison, but she is worried about how she will cope being outside of prison. Aleida is going to be staying with Cesar’s other baby mama, but how long can she keep that arrangement? In Orange is the New Black Season 5, don’t be surprised if she ends up back in prison. Perhaps Aleida will hear about Daya and her gun situation and decide she is more help to her daughter inside prison rather than outside.

A Yoga Jones flashback is long overdue and is a possibility for Season 5 and will Judy King use her celebrity to expose the conditions inside Litchfield prison? Would Poussey’s death guilt-trip her into action considering their relationship?

There is also the possibility of two Litchfield guards making an appearance next season. Josh Bennett may make a comeback and George Mendez cannot be ruled out as a possible returnee.

The new captain of the guard Piscatella got on everybody’s nerves and sure made the Orange is the New Black interesting in Season 4. Piscatella is likely returning in Season 5 but for how long? His methods are not popular and have already resulted in the death of an inmate.

Caputo has had his morals tested and it will be interesting to see what the boss of Litchfield does next to keep his prison in order.

Orange is the New Black returns next year. What will Daya do with the gun and what will be the consequences for her actions? We will have to tune in to find out.
