All-Female ‘Expendables’ Adds Katee Sackhoff To The Cast

An all-female version of The Expendables is in the pipeline, and as speculation rolls on regarding which butt-kicking female actresses might round out the ensemble cast thus far led by Gina Carano, the project has picked up an additional cast member: Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff.

The cast for the all-female Expendables project already includes Gina Carano, and Michelle Rodriguez and Milla Jovovich have been rumored to be in the running for a spot on the list. As casting for the film project moves along, it seems as though producer Adi Shankar will be avoiding the campy 80s-throwback feel of the male-dominated Expendables franchise in favor of a more modern, gritty thriller a la Salt or Carano’s Haywire. That’s good, because I seriously have my doubts as to how a Sigourney Weaver, Pam Grier, Adrienne Barbeau-led action film would fare. Those names a better off heading up a new-millennium reboot of The Golden Girls at this point.

Katee Sackhoff’s casting reinforces the notion of a modern action romp since she is already a fan-favorite for her portrayal of Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on Battlestar Galactica. More butt-kicking entries on her resume, via Screenrant, include a short-but-memorable stint on Bionic Woman, a guest spot on the eighth season of 24, and an upcoming role as a space bounty hunter in the next Riddick film.

Shankar seems to think Sackhoff fits the bill, as well. He told Variety:

“If you spend five minutes with Katee it becomes blatantly obvious that she would pwn (sic) most male action stars.”

Me? I’m still pulling for Jennifer Garner and Sarah Michelle Gellar to sign-on for the female Expendables. But Gina Carano and Katee Sackhoff are good starting points. Michelle Rodriguez would be an interesting addition as well, but God help you if you sign Milla Jovovich or Jessica Alba, Shankar.
