Justin Theroux Talks About His Relationship With Jen And What He Wishes Was Different

Ever since Angelina Jolie announced she was filing for divorce from Brad Pitt, Jennifer Aniston, Pitt’s ex, has been in the headlines as much as the former A-list couple. There has been very little mention about her now hubby, Justin Theroux, seeing as tabloids are keen on revisiting the Brad and Jen days, when Angelina swooped in and stole the heart of Pitt.

However, Jen and Justin are, in fact, happily married, and Theroux has recently chatted about his love for Aniston at their one-year mark of marriage. Justin talked monogamy and commitment, sharing that taking the leap is really all about timing.

“I think it’s at what age you make that commitment,” he said. “When you hear about people in the ’50s getting married at 20, you’re like, ‘What were they thinking?’ My grandparents were together for over 50 years.”

The Girl on the Train star shared that monogamy is something he “obviously” believes in and shared what being married to Aniston has taught him about himself.

“I think it taught me to settle a little bit. It does have a calming effect.”

The writer and actor shares that he’s got a lot to be thankful for and loves his marriage to Jen, yet does wish that he could just have time away from the spotlight like his pre-fame days, and do things that a normal husband and wife duo would do. Us Weekly relays the star’s words.

“It’s a luxury problem, but I would love to walk around New York with my wife. Take her to Washington Square Park,” he said. If he did take her out for a stroll at the famous New York City landmark? “It would turn into a s–t show. It would be not fun.”

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux met on the set of the funny flick Wanderlust back in 2012, and Theroux shared that he and Jen would find time once a week to sing karaoke.

“When we did Wanderlust, we used to do karaoke once a week at [Paul] Rudd’s house. If there’s a microphone and a couple of Pinktracks, I’ll step up,” he said. “‘Get the Party Started’ is a great start to any karaoke.”

The star also chatted about a photo that went viral back in 2013 of him while he was running wearing gray sweatpants. The snap seemed to emphasize a bulge, and the picture led to a bit of embarrassment for Theroux.

“I don’t want to say objectified, but it was embarrassing. It’s like having someone yank your shorts down in public. It doesn’t feel great.”

Jennifer Aniston knows more about the frustrations that go along with viral paparazzi snaps than anyone, after she has been hounded by cameras her entire relationship to Justin and for years prior. Aniston finally had enough when an unflattering picture of the star on vacation was snapped, while she wore a bikini, and tabloids immediately stated that Aniston must be pregnant. It was this last straw that caused Jen to pen an essay for the Huffington Post sharing her frustrations and pleading with the tabloids to stop with the pregnancy rumors already. The beauty also went on to shed light on the bigger picture in regard to how women are viewed and treated.

“If I am some kind of symbol to some people out there, then clearly I am an example of the lens through which we, as a society, view our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, female friends and colleagues… The way I am portrayed by the media is simply a reflection of how we see and portray women in general, measured against some warped standard of beauty.”
