‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Justin Chambers Talks Karev’s ‘Rage’: Is This The End Of His Medical Career?

Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) is in serious trouble on the new season of Grey’s Anatomy. Fans watched Alex beat DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) within an inch of his life during the Season 12 finale, and in the Season 13 premiere, Alex finally turned himself into the police.

Have we seen the last of Alex at Grey Sloan Memorial?

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chambers discussed Alex’s decision to come clean about the fight.

“His mindset is that he wants to be married, and he’s in love with Jo, and he wants to be her husband, and he wants her to be his wife, and she hasn’t given him an answer,” Chambers explained. “DeLuca was just an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire, and Alex has a lot of rage. He’s got a lot to be rageful about.”

Chambers didn’t’ reveal any major spoilers about this season and whether or not Alex is facing some serious jail time.

He did, however, hint that fans haven’t seen the last of Alex.

“I don’t know how that affects his medical license,” Chambers stated. “I don’t know, but he’s… got to find redemption.”

Even if Alex avoids a lengthy jail sentence, he still has to deal with the fallout with Jo (Camilla Luddington), especially since his fight with DeLuca was unwarranted. To complicate matters even further, Jo is still married to her abusive husband and hasn’t broken the news to Alex.

“Obviously, [he’s] going to find out why can’t marry him,” Chambers continued. “I don’t know where that takes them from there, but he’s hurt, and he’s angry, and he’s wrong, but he’s also right.”

Will Alex and Jo ever get back together on Grey’s Anatomy?

“On this show, anything’s possible. Anything,” Chambers added. “I think [Alex is] angry, very angry, and hurt. Hurt’s usually always under anger. So hurt, very, very hurt.”

Despite Jo’s secrets, Chambers believes Alex could be more understanding about the whole situation and why Jo is running from her past.

“I think he should be a little more empathetic, but they bonded over their past, and to leave that part of her past out, that’s a pretty big piece of her puzzle, so I think he’s going to feel very betrayed,” he said.

At the same time, Alex’s friendship with Maggie will also change after his fight with DeLuca. Maggie dated DeLuca in the past and isn’t going to react nicely after she learns that Alex is responsible for his injuries.

According to Yahoo, DeLuca almost lost his eyesight after the beat down. Even after a successful surgery, his career as a surgeon might be over.

With Alex’s future in jeopardy, CNN reports that fans didn’t react kindly to the possibility of jail time.

“If Alex is going to prison, I’m going to prison,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

SF Gate is reporting that some fans even threatened to stop watching Grey’s Anatomy if Alex finds himself in jail for an extended time.

“Please @shondarhimes don’t get rid of Alex! We all love him,” one Twitter fan wrote.

“Shonda, you killed Denny & George, I stayed. You killed Lexie & Mark, I stayed. You killed Derek, I stayed. If Alex goes I go,” another fan shared.

The social media hate didn’t stop there.

“This better not be an introduction to Karev leaving the show. I CANT HANDLE ANY MORE LOSSES D**N IT,” wrote another fan on Twitter.

Based on Chambers’ interview, it doesn’t look like Alex is going to go away for good.

However, the character faces serious challenges ahead, and there is a very real possibility that his medical license could be suspended.

New episodes of Grey’s Anatomy air Thursday night on ABC.
