Rosie O’Donnell Vs. Donald Trump: How It All Began

There has a been longtime feud between presidential candidate and real estate tycoon Donald Trump and comedian Rosie O’Donnell, and the tension was once again stirred during a recent debate between Trump and his opposition in the campaign, Hillary Clinton.

During Monday night’s debate, Clinton accused Trump of having once mocked a teenage Latina beauty queen, Alicia Machado, who won Miss Universe in 1996, calling her “Miss Piggy” and “Miss Housekeeping,” which rehashed the feud between him and O’Donnell that has been alive and well for a decade. Trump referred to the tension between him and the comedian in rebuttal to Clinton’s accusation.

“Somebody who has been very vicious to me, Rosie O’Donnell, I said very tough things to her and I think everybody would agree that she deserves it and nobody feels sorry for her. “

Trump continues to return to voicing his negative opinion of O’Donnell, time and time again, after calling her “fat” and a “slob” while insulting her on talk shows in the past, but the question is, what brought this feud on to begin with?

It all comes down to another beauty queen, Tara Conner, who won the Miss USA pageant in 2006, yet came under fire due to tabloids reporting she was drinking and using drugs and had been spotted kissing a woman. Trump, who was a co-owner of the pageant franchise, was not pleased with this behavior and Conner faced the possibility of losing her crown and title. However, in a news conference that was televised, Trump stated, “I’ve always been a believer in second chances.” As the New York Times, notes, Rosie O’Donnell, who was at that time a co-host on The View, took to criticizing Trump on the popular program, noting claims about his marital infidelity and calling him a hypocrite to speak of forgiveness.

“Ms. O’Donnell mocked his haircut, tousling her hair to mimic a comb-over, and put on a cartoonish Queens accent. She criticized his many bankruptcies and his record of not paying contractors who had done work for him. She said he was like a snake-oil salesman.”

O’Donnell gained the applause of the audience while the co-hosts on the show were brought to agreement and laughter. The comedian continued to stand her ground and even shared a clip of the show’s segment on Twitter this past Monday, the day of the debate, adding that it is something Mr. Trump “can’t seem to get over.”

Donald J. Trump, now a presidential candidate, simply found it all to be over the line, yet he has not backed down ever since. He has threatened to sue and has hurled insults Rosie’s way on Entertainment Tonight, calling her “disgusting” and a “slob” with a “fat, ugly face.” He stated he wanted to take Rosie to court so he could “take some money out of her fat-ass pockets,” and questioned why anyone would want to be in a relationship with her.

The insults did not stop there. As The Times relays.

“We’re all a little chubby, but Rosie is just worse than most of us,” he said. “But it’s not the chubbiness. Rosie is a very unattractive person, both inside and out.”

While on the Late Show With David Letterman, Trump went on to share his negative opinion of Rosie O’Donnell, and after sharing that Conner had gone into rehab, he went on to state that he sees the comedian as “a degenerate” referencing O’Donnell having recently come out as a lesbian.

The remarks by Trump over the years have simply been a source of humor to many. However, as a candidate running to be the president of the United States of America, reflecting on his words and the ongoing feud sheds more light on the character who opposes Mrs. Clinton. Rosie shared with People, back in 2014, that the “Trump stuff” was the most bullying she has ever experienced.
