Goldie Hawn Reveals The Secret To Keeping Kurt Russell Happy

Kurt Russell is again making headlines with Deepwater Horizon, as he often does with his phenomenal performances on the big screen, and, just as might be expected, his lifelong partner, Goldie Hawn, is right at his side. Hawn and Russell may have one of the most durable romances in and out of Hollywood, even though the pair have never taken that walk down the aisle. Now, Goldie opens up about what has kept her from marrying Kurt and why staying together has been much more possible without wedding rings to bind them.

Goldie Hawn Dishes On How Her Romance With Kurt Russell Has Lasted So Long

Fox News reveals that Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been romantically involved for 33 years and still growing strong. While the couple doesn’t have a wedding anniversary to celebrate, Goldie reveals that she and Kurt celebrate the anniversary of their first date every February 14. When asked how she has managed to keep her love affair with Russell so relevant and strong, Ms. Hawn gives all of the credit to the fact that they have never been married.

“I would have been long divorced if I got married,” said Ms. Hawn in a Loose Women interview on ITV. “If you need to be bound to someone, then it’s important to be married. If you are independent, then it’s important to not be married.”

Goldie went on to explain that both Mr. Russell and herself have always liked having the choice present, adding that each of them has always chosen to stay and make it work. Even Hawn’s children and Russell’s children all agree that the pair work better together without being married.

Other than that, Goldie says there’s no great secret. Some relationships work, while others ultimately fail. Hawn does feel that it’s harder for Hollywood couples to make a go of it because of the pressure of being put under a constant spotlight.

Goldie Hawn Makes Her Valentine’s Day With Kurt Russell A Special Day

It doesn’t get any more romantic than celebrating one’s anniversary on Valentine’s Day, but, even so, Daily Mail reports that Goldie and Kurt have had their ups and downs and have even had some of the spark gone from their relationship, just due to the passage of time. Hawn said that the beginning of a relationship is always exciting with partners wanting to be together all of the time and feeling saddened by being separated for even a short time, but she’s quick to add that those absences are needed later on in the relationship.

It makes sense. Spending every waking moment with someone can lead to boredom, monotony. Being away from Kurt is nothing new for Goldie. The pair are often separated by their career duties and charity obligations. Last year, Hawn and Russell were separated on their anniversary, so, as Goldie made an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, she stepped out with a bottle of champagne in one hand.

“I brought a bottle because it’s Valentine’s Day and I’m not with Kurt because he’s making a film,” Hawn announced. “So he’s up in the mountains and I’m here… But he sent this to me today so I want to say happy anniversary!”

Last year’s Valentine’s Day was the first and only anniversary Hawn and Russell have spent apart.

Ms. Hawn says that Russell and herself have always been a very romantic pair, but they’re also practical people and have learned how to make the proper time and place for love within their practical lives.

Deepwater Horizon, which stars Kurt Russell and Kate Hudson, will hit theaters on September 30.
