Sam Champion To Marry Partner Rubem Robierb

Sam Champion is gay and in love. The Good Morning America weatherman announced that he will be marrying his boyfriend, Rubem Robierb, in New York later this year.

The New York Times broke the news earlier today. According to the Times, it is the first time that Champion has publicly acknowledged that he was gay. Champion is expected to talk more about his wedding this Monday on Good Morning America.

ABC released a statement, saying:

“We are thrilled and so excited and thank everyone for their good wishes.”

The Times reports that Champion’s friends and colleagues have known about his sexuality for a long time. The reporter proudly showed off his engagement ring to his GMA co-workers the day after Robierb popped the question. Champion has not, however, talked publicly about his sexuality.

That changed last weekend when Champion and Robierb were dancing at MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts’ wedding. Reporter Jacob Bernstein, who was at the wedding, talked to the newly engaged couple about their upcoming wedding.

Champion said: “We’re getting married New Year’s Eve in Miami,”

Robierb clarified: “We’ll do it here officially, and then have a party in Miami.”

Are you happy for Sam Champion?

GLAAD President Herndon Graddick told the Huffington Post: “Sam has been a good friend and longtime supporter of GLAAD, and I wish him and Rubem the absolute best.”
