Designer Tom Ford Is A New Daddy, Announces Birth of Son With Partner

Fashion designer and film director, Tom Ford, and his partner of 26 years, Richard Buckley, have announced the birth of their baby son, Alexander.

Fashion journalist, Jim Shi was one of the first to tweet the news, later joking about the fact that it comes on what is also ‘Global James Bond Day’. The tie-in is a neat one. Daniel Craig’s entire wardrobe in the upcoming Skyfall has been designed by Ford.

The baby — full name, Alexander John Buckley Ford — is widely believed to have born by via surrogate, the same method used by singer and musician Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish.

Ford, 51, a perennial favorite with stars such as Gywneth Paltrow, Penelope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson, to name a few, met Buckley, 64, at a fashion show in the 80’s. Ford, then 25, to Buckley’s 38, recalled to Women’s Wear Daily that:

“I went to a fashion show and this silver-haired guy was staring at me with these piercing water-blue eyes. It scared me because I absolutely saw and knew my entire future.”

Buckley, a former editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International and Ford, a past creative director at Gucci, before he launched his own line, also revealed he and Buckley made the decision to have a child because of their late ages.

“I think I’d better get busy soon, though, because I’d like to be able to pick them up,” he told WWD.

As yet, no details about the baby’s weight or physiognomy have been revealed, but a picture that accompanied Shi’s tweet stated the child was born in Los Angeles on September 23.

Congratulations to the couple from the worlds of fashion and film are already pouring in on social media sites, New York Times critic, Cathy Horyn, and present editor of British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman, among them.

One thing is certain, Alexander John Buckley Ford will be one of the best dressed babies on the celebrity circuit.
