Did Shawn Mendes Write ‘Roses’ For Camila Cabello After Revealing They Kissed?

Shawn Mendes fans are speculating that he may be making his feelings for Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello known through his new track “Roses,” just days after he seemingly revealed that he and Cabello once kissed.

Shawn’s fans flocked to social media to speculate on the track, which is featured on the deluxe edition of Mendes’s new album Illuminate, suggesting that the lyrics could allude to his long-rumored relationship with Camila.

“People are saying that Shawn wrote ‘Roses’ for Camila,” @tornedmendes tweeted out amid the song speculation on September 25, while @tata28281 wrote, “If Shawn wrote ‘Roses’ for Camila, he plays the guy [in the] friendzone and still says that when she’s with someone, she’s so happy.”

“Imagine if when Camila tweets about Illuminate she says Roses is her favorite,” Twitter user @latinascamila added of Mendes’s song.

Adding even more fuel to the fire, Twitter account @CamilasSpotify revealed on September 23 that Cabello was actually listening to Shawn’s new track on the streaming service Spotify.

Camila then took to the social media site to publicly gush over Mendes, telling Shawn, who she famously teamed up with for their 2015 duet “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” that she was “so proud” of him amid the release of his new album.

“Omg!!!!!!! I can’t wait to listen,” Cabello replied to Mendes’s tweet about Illuminate, adding “Go Canada” and “so so so proud” alongside three heart emojis.

Though Mendes and Cabello have both stayed tight-lipped as fans speculate about the song, this isn’t the first time it’s been rumored that Shawn may have written a song inspired by the Fifth Harmony star, who he grew close to when Mendes, Camila, and her Fifth Harmony bandmates toured with Austin Mahone in 2015.

Back in June, fans were quick to speculate that “Treat You Better,” Mendes’s lead single from Illuminate, could have been inspired by Camila after Shawn revealed in a Twitter Q&A session that the song was about being in love with a girl who was in a relationship with someone else who was not treating them right.

Australia News Network then hinted that Camila Cabello could potentially have been the inspiration behind Shawn Mendes’s song amid rumors the two were dating or had previously dated, as the site claimed that fans “pointed out subtle hints” that appeared to suggest that Mendes could have been singing about Cabello.

Neither Shawn nor Camila have even commented on the speculation, though they have always been quick to shut down the dating reports in the past, that is until Mendes appeared to make a pretty huge dating confession during an interview with Capital FM earlier this month.

Mendes and Cabello have always denied the dating speculation, though Shawn appeared to confirm that he and the Fifth Harmony star may once have dated after seemingly admitting that they once kissed.

Shawn appeared to confirm the dating rumors that have long swirled around himself and Camila in a new interview with Capital FM, after he played seriously coy and grinned when asked about his long-reported romance with Cabello and if they’ve ever kissed.

During a game on the British radio show on September 15 in which Shawn was challenged by the radio show’s hosts not to lie, Shawn was asked by a fan, “Was Camila Cabello a good kisser?”

Rather than immediately shutting down the dating rumors or denying he and Camila ever kissed, Mendes instead replied with a smile, “I don’t know… I don’t know what that means.”

“She has too strong of a British accent,” Shawn then jokingly continued of the fan who asked they Cabello dating question, appearing to confirm that he and Cabello once kissed. “I couldn’t understand her.”

What do you think of the dating rumors once again swirling around Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes?
