Naked Florida Man Tosses 4-Month-Old Baby Over Fence, Gets Arrested For Child Abuse

In what can be best described as a shocking incident, police officers from Winter Springs, Florida have arrested a man after he allegedly threw his four-month-old baby over a fence. The incident reportedly happened late last on Thursday following which the 31-year-old man, later identified as Richard Harris was arrested. Harris has since then been charged with aggravated child abuse. If convicted, he might have to spend a long time in prison because of his previous criminal background.

According to a report by The Orlando Sentinel, the incident came to light after a 911 call was made by local residents who informed police about a man running around naked with a baby in his hand. A few minutes later, when police officers arrived on the scene, they discovered the man sitting on the ground, near a garbage can outside a home located on Talmo Street, just north of State Road 434 and east of U.S. Highway 17-92. Upon confirming the identity of the person, he was asked about the whereabouts of the baby that was with him. With the individual offering no coherent response, police officers did a quick search around the area and asked neighbor Michele Reaves if they could search her property for the child.

Within minutes, officers found the baby lying face down on the other side of the privacy fence. Recollecting the incident, Reaves who described the incident as a “horrible situation” said that she sensed something was wrong when she found a pair of pants near the roadway. As the police officers looked for the baby, they heard the feeble cries of the baby, after which the child was quickly located. She also later told police officers that she had seen Harris strip off his clothes.

“He went this way, then went to my neighbor’s yard. [He] stripped down everything of what was left and sat on his trashcan,” she said.

She also vividly recollects what happened when the the officer found the baby.

“He picked up the baby, he was patting him on the back. I recognized the baby. There was a couple who would usually walk down the road with their dog and their baby.”

She also confirmed that the baby was found face down in a pile of leaves. The child was alive and did not suffer from a major injury. There were however, visible scrapes and bruises on the child.

After the baby was found, officers made several attempts to talk to Richard Harris. One of the responding officers asked him how the baby ended up on the other side of the fence. However, Richard started yelling “random words and phrases” and started throwing grass and dirt at the officer instead of co-operating. Harris also made an attempt to attack the officer when he jumped at the officer and pushed him several times. Harris was quickly subdued by other officers and was soon arrested. Harris was subsequently charged with aggravated child abuse, and was denied bond by a Seminole County court on Friday.

Meanwhile, Michele Reaves, the woman in whose property the baby was found was so concerned about the baby that she spent the night with the baby and its mother at the hospital. She was also relieved over the fact that the baby did not suffer from a major injury.

“I’m just grateful the baby’s okay, the mom is okay and now the dad will get help,” said Reaves.

Meanwhile, the incident did lead to sharp reactions by people on social media.

One commenter on a Facebook thread said;

“What the hell is wrong with people to harm your own child. I’m just glad the baby is ok. And that he can’t hurt the baby now.”

Another person also blamed the child’s mother.

“OK, we bash the moron enough and he deserves it but what idiot of a woman lets her children around such trash? Where’s the mom in all of this!? Women need to start growing a bit smarter now a days.”
