J.J. Abrams dropped by Conan last night to talk about Star Trek Into Darkness and showed a short clip to help ramp up excitement. Of course, he doesn’t want too much excitement, so he made the clip less than a second long.

It’s been four years since the Star Trek reboot, and the sequel has rolled along at a snail’s pace. But work is moving along, even if the production team headed up by sci-fi wonder boy J.J. Abrams has little to show for it aside from some leaked set photos and a three-frame teaser clip. Abrams previewed the three-frame Star Trek Into Darkness clip last night to Conan O’Brien and audience on the set of TBS’ Conan, and the audience reaction was pretty much what you might expect from a three-frame clip.

Still, excitement is up for the sequel, and J.J. Abrams certainly knows how to stoke audience enthusiasm even if the final product doesn’t always deliver like we’d hoped it would. Just keep your eyes peeled when you watch the clip. You will literally miss the whole thing if you blink.

Star Trek Into Darkness is the sequel to 2009′s Star Trek. Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, and John Cho have all returned to reprise their roles as the original crew of the Enterprise. English actor Benedict Cumberbatch stars as the still-unnamed villain. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film is set for release on May 17, 2013.
