‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7: White Walkers And The Path To The Iron Throne

Game of Thrones has two more seasons, and as the end draws near, fans are working harder than ever to figure out who will end up sitting on the Iron Throne. Between now and when we get to see the solution to that puzzle, there’s a battle to be fought, a critical and probably deadly battle — the battle against the White Walkers. George R.R. Martin has said the end of Game of Thrones will be bittersweet, which probably means that although fans will be pleased with who ends up on the Iron Throne, we won’t be happy about the characters that die in the process. Sophie Turner has even said that for some Game of Thrones characters, Season 7 will be their last. Winter has finally come and it very possibly could be the most heartbreaking of them all.

So what are the current theories related to this all-important Game of Thrones battle? There are a few.

Watchers on the Wall has reported a Game of Thrones casting call for a large number of extras with a description that sounds like an army of the Unsullied. It sounds like a large battle, as there will also be a large number of horses involved in the scene. Based on the call, we can guess there will be a rather large battle that pits Daenerys’ Unsullied and the Dothraki against someone, but we can’t tell who. It could be Cersei and Game of Thrones could have Dany go directly to Kings Landing in pursuit of the Iron Throne.

Or Dany could take a different, temporary direction after the battle and head North to fight the White Walkers. Whoever gets the Iron Throne will have to face the White Walkers, so it would make sense for this to happen. Of course, when she goes North, she will learn that Jon Snow is King of the North. Jon would likely be very cooperative with her as he knows that he needs her dragons in order to defeat the White Walkers. Game of Thrones fans have often speculated that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen would fall in love, and this very well could be how it happens.

Bran Stark could also play a part in the epic Game of Thrones battle with the White Walkers. Remember when he went into a White Walker battle in a vision? One of them saw him and touched him. The Three-Eyed Raven said that they could track him now. As Bustle points out, Bran now knows that Jon is part Targaryen. He will try to get to him to let him know. In doing so, he will unwittingly take the White Walkers right to Jon. This can’t be good. But if Daenerys and her dragons are waiting for them, maybe both she and Jon will survive and gain the throne.

There is another theory involving Sam Tarley and a development that could turn Game of Thrones and everything in Westeros on its head. What if Sam Tarley brought an end to magic? Sam has reached the Citadel and will study how to defeat the White Walkers. The Week has suggested that in his mission to learn about how to defeat the White Walkers, Sam will learn how to end magic altogether. This would have a mixed bag of results — bittersweet, if you will. It would stop the White Walkers and their Wights, but it would also bring an end to Daenerys’ dragons and Bran’s visions. It would also kill Jon Snow.

Well, the waiting is killing Game of Thrones fans right now, and it’s far from over. We don’t have a date yet, but Game of Thrones isn’t expected to return to HBO until the summer of 2017.
