Hack To Bring Back iPhone 7 Headphone Jack Takes Over Web

Missing the headphone jack on your new iPhone 7? A new “secret” hack is taking the internet by storm. Can you pull it off?

When Apple came out with the iPhone 7, the whole world did not celebrate the fact that it was the first water-resistant iPhone, nor that it had all these beautiful features. When the iPhone 7 finally came out, there was only one thing that the whole community looked and whined at – the missing headphone jack.

Apparently, the iPhone 7 was designed to bring us (or maybe more like force us) into the wireless future. With the missing headphone jack on the iPhone 7, users were encouraged to purchase the $159 Apple AirPods, the wireless Bluetooth Apple ear pods that syncs seamlessly with the iPhone 7. But this did not go so well with the consumers as Apple had hoped. Instead, people clamored for the headphone jack, a smartphone standard that simply couldn’t be wished into nonexistence with just one unit.

With this burning passion to bring back the headphone jack to the iPhone 7, one iPhone 7 user decided it was time to do something concrete to bring back the much-clamored-for headphone jack.

YouTuber TechRax is known for a lot of tech-related goodness, some of which are microwaving an iPhone 7, submerging the iPhone 7 in liquid nitrogen, boiling an iPhone with crayons, and many other crazy videos that, believe it or not, entertain the internet folk.

This time around, CNBC reports that he’s bringing the solution to the missing headphone jack on the iPhone 7. TechRax starts his video with a promising line.

“A lot of people have been complaining recently that the new iPhone 7 lacks the headphone jack. I found a perfect solution to this problem, guys.”

This do-it-yourself hack then starts with a fresh-from-the-box iPhone 7, which the man puts on a metal clamp. He then proceeds to drill a hole where the headphone jack is supposed to be on the said iPhone 7 and voila, “just like that, you have your own 3.5 mm headphone jack.” He then demonstrates the reliability of the hack by plugging in his own 3.5mm headphones on the drilled hole, with no problems whatsoever.

Sadly, this “secret” iPhone 7 hack is seen more than the prank that it was meant to be by fellow iPhone 7 users who are itching to restore the headphone jack on their iPhone 7 units. The Sun reports that already a handful of iPhone 7 users are, sadly, trying the hack – and as expected, failing miserably.

Some of the comments left on the video read.

“Hi, I’ve just done this but there is no sound coming from the headphones. I used an exact 3.5mm drill bit but the connector doesn’t sit flush in the hole for some reason. The phone doesn’t even detect the headphones are in.”

“I just did this to my new IPhone 7 and I ruined it how did he do it different?”

“I tried this and ended up with display destruction and it not working… I really committed the biggest mistake of my life by watching the his video.”

“Ok I am sure it’s in the comments somewhere but my friend told me to ask what size drill bit am I supposed to use? Also I don’t have that clamp thingy, can I or my friend hold it while we drill. I don’t want to ruin my phone. Thanks for all the help guys…”

And, of course, instead of clarifying that the YouTube video was actually a video made to humor rather than present a real iPhone hack, other YouTubers went on to rub salt on the gullible’s wounds, Daily Mail notes.

Some of the more sarcastic, but still equally hilarious comments on the video, in response to the queries by iPhone 7 users who have been duped to following the hack are here.

“Since some people are still having issues, a bit of advice. The guy seems to have missed the part about cleaning the phone after drilling. In order to clean out the 3.5mm socket of debris from the drill you need to soak the phone in soapy water for around 15 minutes so all the drill shavings are loosened. Then give the phone a shake once you’re done. Hope this helps someone. ;-)”

“I did this and It work. Thanks! Also i drilled micro usb on another speaker, all works fine!!!”

Two weeks into its release, the video is already at 8 million hits.

Please, to other iPhone 7 users out there, do not try this at home.
