WWE News: Kevin Nash Compares Roman Reigns’ Career To His Own

Roman Reigns is one of the most polarizing figures in the WWE right now. For years, half the fans booed John Cena, while the other half loved him, but in recent years, even those who boo him have developed a grudging respect for him. Maybe that is Roman Reigns’ eventual future in the WWE, but for now, there are people who just love to hate him.

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were on the recent Legends with JBL episode and JBL talked to Nash about the similarities between his career and that of Roman Reigns. Kevin sees a strong similarity between his career in the WWE and that of Roman Reigns.

“I’ve lived through it. I said, I went to the Royal Rumble in Providence and threw 11 guys out in a row and they chanted ‘Diesel’ for the first time. And then, they go with you, and as soon as you’re anointed and they know that you’re the office’s choice, all bets are off because now you’re getting a push.”

There are some similarities between Kevin Nash and Roman Reigns, but it is different in how both men started out and how the fans reacted to them over time. In the case of Kevin Nash, he was coming off a poor start to his career in WCW and got the chance to be a silent enforcer for Shawn Michaels while HBK was a hated heel in the WWE.

Soon, Kevin Nash and Shawn Michaels formed the Kliq with Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, and Triple H, and the five men started to rule the WWE. They all started trading off titles and that meant that Kevin Nash and Shawn Michaels split up on television and feuded, Kevin winning the WWE world title.

The biggest problem here is that Kevin Nash was not putting on good matches in the WWE. Known simply as Diesel, he beat Bob Backlund for the title three days after Backlund beat Bret Hart. People understand that, behind-the-scenes, Hart refused to lose to Diesel.

After that win, Kevin Nash held the WWE title for 358 long days. Vince McMahon loved his look and believed that Nash was over with the fans. While he was popular, his matches caused many fans to start booing him.

Kevin Nash believes WWE fans booed him because he got pushed, but his matches with names like King Mable, Sycho Sid, The British Bulldog, and even great wrestlers like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart, were all plodding and forgettable. It wasn’t until Diesel left the WWE and went to WCW that he really got over as the cool heel in the nWo.

It is completely different with Roman Reigns. In the case of Reigns, the fans are booing him because he was the chosen one and was pushed over names that the fans wanted to see. Roman Reigns is the polar opposite of Kevin Nash in the most important ways.

While Nash was gold on the mic, Roman Reigns is not a good promo man. While Kevin sucked the life out of matches with his slow and boring style, Roman Reigns puts on great matches on a consistent basis.

This year alone, Roman Reigns has had great matches on WWE television with Kevin Owens, Rusev, Seth Rollins, Chris Jericho, Dean Ambrose, AJ Styles, and Finn Balor. Yes, those are all great wrestlers, but Kevin had trouble in matches with Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Roman Reigns can hold his own in a WWE ring.

The Inquisitr previously reported that Roman Reigns is expected to be kept out of the WWE Universal Championship title picture, possibly giving Roman a consolation prize with the United States Championship at Clash of Champions. That might be a way to salvage Roman Reigns’ WWE career because, unlike Kevin Nash, Reigns can go in the ring.
