Rodolfo Ramirez: Former MMA Fighter Caught On Video Sexually Assaulting Unconscious Woman

Former MMA fighter Rodolfo Ramirez was arrested on Wednesday after a disturbing video surfaced from a Scottsdale, Arizona, parking garage. It showed Ramirez carrying an unconscious woman over his shoulder before allegedly sexually assaulting her. Court documents released this weekend state that there was no way the young woman could have given consent.

New York Daily News reports that Ramirez, 28, faces three counts of sexual assault, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of sexual abuse, stemming from a late night assault that occurred after he spotted the victim, alone and inebriated, in Old Town Scottsdale.

The victim, according to police, was out drinking with friends, and became extremely intoxicated, unable to walk. Her friend left her in a parking garage while she went to get their car, and that’s when Ramirez reportedly grabbed her, slung her over his shoulder, and walked away with her in tow.

When questioned by the police, the victim’s friend said she saw a man with a beard hugging her friend, but when she returned with the car, both the bearded man, who turned out to be Ramirez, and her friend, were gone. The victim told police that all she remembered from the night in question was blacking out during the first sexual assault, which was caught on camera in the parking garage. Police later found her cellphone and earring at the assault scene.

Ramirez allegedly took the victim back to his house after the first assault, where he sexually assaulted her two more times. He later dropped her off in Tempe, near her friend’s dorm room. The victim phoned the police and told them she was in shock during most of the assaults, and her only thought was to get somewhere safe.

When authorities confronted Ramirez, he initially denied the accusations and told the officers that the victim “wasn’t pretty enough for him.” He said he saw the girl in Scottsdale, close to the Hotel Valley Ho, where he was a former employee, but he said he didn’t know her. However, when faced with the surveillance camera evidence, he said he had “consensual sex” with her, although he admitted she was “very intoxicated.”

ABC 15 Arizona reports that Ramirez finally confessed to police that he’d made a mistake, but that he was a “not a bad guy,” but still claimed that the victim was willing and the sexual acts were mutual. He was arrested and booked into the Scottsdale City Jail.

On Friday, Ramirez stood before a judge with his lawyer by his side, while he listened to the charges against him. His lawyer argued that the victim never gave any statement that she was kidnapped, and that the video doesn’t prove anything.

“It’s the fact that a video shows my client carrying a victim — that’s not kidnapping. The statute requires substantial evidence for the court to find probable cause. The victim felt something here and there. She was extremely drunk. There’s no biological or physical evidence. My client is innocent until he’s proven guilty.”

The victim’s attorney disagreed. She repeated the victim’s own statements during the hearing, rebuffing everything Ramirez’s lawyer said.

“He had sex with the victim three separate times throughout the night, where she was like dead weight. She woke up for a minute and then was right back out but he still had sex with her. She had absolutely no ability to consent. She was taken against her will to someplace she did not want to be, having sex to somebody she did not consent to – it’s sexual assault.”

Rodolfo Ramirez remains in jail with no bond. He’s scheduled to appear in court for his next hearing on September 29.
