Sky Ferreira Poses Topless For ‘Playboy,’ But She Had Complete Control

Sky Ferreira is giving fans a taste at her new look and album. The 24-year-old singer and songwriter appeared topless for Playboy magazine. In fact, she strips down a lot for the revamped men’s magazine; however, she still had complete creative control of her unretouched and unedited photos, reports Mic.

Sky Ferreira’s photo shoot for the October 2016 issue of Playboy was all her idea. Not only was she the magazine’s cover girl, but she also directed the photo shoot and had complete creative control over the shoot. Ferreira took to Instagram to share some of the safe-for-work photos from the Playboy shoot.

“I am the first bunny ever to be a creative collaborator and creative/art direct,” Ferreira wrote on one of the Instagram posts. “I produced and directed all of the content.”

Then, Playboy took to its official Instagram to share a collage of two – not one – of her covers. According to the singer, her friend Sandy Kim shot the intimate photos. On one of the covers, Ferreira is seen posing topless with her back to the camera as she glances back. In the other cover, she is illuminated by a blue light as she wears a mesh jacket and bodysuit.

Meanwhile, actor Bruce Dern took control of the interview with Ferreira in time for her upcoming album, Masochist, the follow-up to her 2013 album, Night Time, My Time. Ferreira not only had complete control of the Playboy shoot, but also of her music, which has proven a struggle for her ever since her teens.

“Even when I was 15 years old, going by myself to meetings with Sony or some other place, they’d be like, ‘Little girl, you don’t know what you’re talking about.’ But they kept wanting to get my music from me. There’s this entire ‘shut up and be pretty’ mentality.”

Earlier this week, Ferreira teased new music from her forthcoming album. Masochism was actually first announced back in April 2015, but Ferreira’s album was delayed due to the singer’s health issues. In a new interview with Dazed, Ferreira confirmed that Masochism will be released at some point this year, reports NME. Then, in a new post on her Instagram page, Ferreira confirmed that new music from her upcoming album will be released within the next week.

She shared what looks like a screengrab from a new music video. She wrote, “Editing. Lots of surprises next week hint hint nudge nudge #Masochism.”

For her new album, she has been working with Mike Dean, Rahki, and Night Time producer and co-writer Ariel Rechtshaid.

“It’s more like The Knife or Fever Ray in terms of the production,” Ferreira previously told BEATS magazine.

Back in February, Ferreira revealed that Masochism was inspired by a dark time in her life.

“I started writing the lyrics two years ago when I was touring, and that’s when the name came to me. The way I look at it, it’s about going from one thing to another. I’ve learned a lot about myself and my own self-value. Before, in order to feel good about anything there had to be some kind of struggle, a painful way to get to it, otherwise I felt I didn’t really deserve it. Which is a really f***ed up way of thinking.”

Ferreira stirred controversy when she posed topless for the album artwork of her debut album. The NSFW photo shows the singer topless, wearing a silver cross necklace, and pouting in the shower, as noted by Spin. Ferreira spoke out about the controversy to AAP, which she didn’t think would be such a big deal at the time, according to the Daily Mail.

“It was just a picture to me. I didn’t really think it was going to be that big of a deal. I didn’t think it would offend that many people. There are way bigger issues than my body or whoever’s body it’s just weird… it’s like people have a problem with sexuality unless they get to use it and enjoy it for themselves. I don’t think those photos were necessarily sexy and if I was trying to sell my body… I could have made it look way nicer.”
