Sherry Hall: Jackson Police Officer Who Fabricated Story Black Man Shot Her As Town ‘Poured Out Their Hearts’ Fired

Sherry Hall, a Jackson, Georgia, police officer, has been fired for “making up” a story that a “black man” shot her, according to the New York Daily News and CBS News/AP.

“For two weeks, the good people of the city of Jackson poured out their hearts in expressions of concern and support for what we believed to be a police officer — one of our own — harmed in the line of duty,” Kay Pippin, the mayor of Jackson, stated.

Officer Sherry Hall has been charged with “making false statements, tampering with evidence, interference with government property and violation of oath of office.”

Originally, it was reported by CBS46 that Officer Hall had been shot in the stomach, but that she had been protected by a bulletproof vest.

Reports said to quote Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials with regard to their investigation stated that Hall fabricated the events in her September 13 call to her dispatcher, stating that she had been shot by a black man near a wooded area on Camelia Court near Walker Street, said to be several blocks from downtown Jackson, after she had stopped and questioned him and he became “argumentative.”

After being shot, Officer Hall’s story went, she fired at the man twice with her Glock .22 service pistol.

Upon investigating the incident, officials with the GBI determined that media captured with Sherry Hall’s cruiser’s audio and video recording equipment did not match with her story. The Root reports that the manufacturer of the electronic devices was consulted in retrieving recorded media that Hall may have tried to hide.

The investigation was reported to have included teams of officers combing the forest near the location of the fabricated incident, as well as going door-to-door, seeking information residents may have been able to share.

The GBI concluded that Officer Hall wasn’t the “victim of a shooting.” Her fabricated story was described as causing unnecessary fear that an “armed suspect was still on the loose.”

Originally, it had been reported that Sherry Hall had been placed on administrative leave. Now, the Daily News is reporting that the Jackson police officer has been fired.

Chief of the Jackson Police Department, James Morgan, first told Hall’s now-debunked story on September 13. It took 10 days for the GBI to reach the conclusion that Hall had made the entire story up.

Chief Morgan reportedly stated that Hall had been “fired” earlier today.

“She’s very professional at all costs, she’s highly trained, she gives it her all,” Morgan had been quoted with regard to Hall, before the revelations that she had fabricated her story about being shot by a black man.

Sherry Hall was reported to have been employed by the Jackson Police Department for three months and to have worked in law enforcement for at least four years.

Users on social media made comparisons between former Officer Hall’s behavior and that of officers responsible for the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte, North Carolina, as reported by the Inquisitr.

The Young Turks commentator Ben Mankiewicz recently discussed a perceived public distrust of statements made by some police departments, referring specifically to comments made by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney.

“The video does not give me absolute, definitive, visual evidence that would confirm that a person is pointing a gun” is the quote Mankiewicz singled-out, where Putney described unreleased dash cam and body cam footage, said to exist, of the final moments of Keith Scott’s life.

“That’s police speak for, ‘he wasn’t pointing a gun,'” Mankiewicz stated flatly.

Ben Mankiewicz also shared a story he referred to as pertaining to “old school” law enforcement where some police officer would keep a spare “gun ready” to plant, in case they accidentally, or even intentionally, shot someone and needed to fabricate evidence, apparently as Sherry Hall attempted to do.
