‘Below Deck’ Kate Chastain On Giving Ben Robinson Relationship Another Try

Would Kate Chastain give having a romantic relationship with Ben Robinson another try? In an interview with Bravo’s The Daily Dish, posted on Friday, Kate talked about the possibility of having something more than a friendship with her co-star Ben now that they’re both single. She also talked about the friction and tension that she and Ben had together while filming the fourth season of Below Deck.

Kate ruled out the possibility of a romantic relationship with Ben because they “rile each other up” too much. She said that they’ll probably only ever have a good friendship.

“No, I don’t think Ben and I will ever have anything serious besides a really amazing friendship because we rile each other up, which can be fun in small doses.”

Kate has starred on the Bravo hit show, showcasing the work and shenanigans of a crew on a luxury yacht, since the second season. Ben has been with the show since the very first season. Both returned to Season 4 in the same positions that they held in Seasons 2 and 3, she as chief stewardess and he as chef. On Season 2, viewers watched Kate and Ben flirt with one another one minute but then argue the next. Their work relationship eventually turned physical, with both of them admitting that they engaged in a fling off the yacht. On Season 3, after Ben returned to replace the original chef who was fired, he admitted to Raquel “Rocky” Dakota that he and Kate “hooked up a few times.” When Rocky asked Ben why his fling with Kate didn’t turn into a relationship, Ben said that they’re too similar and wouldn’t complement each other well in a relationship.

Kate confessed to Amy Johnson that Ben, after waking up one day, told her that if they ever got married, it would be Armageddon. Kate compared her and Ben to cheesecake.

“Ben and I are like cheesecake. It’s really decadent, it’s delicious but you can’t eat it every day. We have a line now…”

On the Below Deck Season 4 premiere episode that aired two weeks ago, Kate Chastain revealed that she was in a relationship with a woman for the first time. She explained that she met Rocio “Ro” Hernandez, a professional athlete, during a night out and they just hit it off. Kate said that she was never sexually attracted to a woman before and that she’s not sure what her current relationship means in regards to her sexuality.

“Am I gay? Am I not gay? I don’t know! I am in sexual limbo and not like in a fun Kama Sutra page 96 way…it’s complicated.”

When Ben Robinson was asked for his thoughts on Kate’s relationship, he at first expressed skepticism that Kate could really be physically and sexually attracted to a woman so late in life.

“I have my doubts whether Kate actually likes Ro. It’s really odd for a girl to change sexuality at the age of 32. Kate now has a girlfriend and I’m still single [laughs]. And I’m still single!”

Later, however, Ben admitted that Kate seemed really happy. Ben attributed Kate’s happiness to her new relationship and said that he could have never made her so happy.

“Kate seems happier than ever. Obviously happier than when, you know, I could’ve provided [laughs]. Yeah.”

While viewers will watch Kate’s relationship with Ro play out on Season 4, the preview shows that Ro will even make an appearance on the yacht, the relationship didn’t last. In June, it was reported that Kate was arrested and charged with a felony domestic violence charge of battery by strangulation after getting in an altercation with Ro. Kate was released from jail after having her mugshot taken and posting a $5,000 bond. Captain Lee Rosbach immediately defended Kate on social media, reminding people to not judge Kate until all of the facts and her side of the story comes out.

Kate was asked about her legal case during her appearance on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live after the airing of the Below Deck premiere episode. As the Inquisitr reported, Kate said that despite wanting to talk about the case, she has been advised by her lawyers not to. Regarding Ro, she confirmed that she was no longer in a romantic relationship with her, nor does she have any kind of friendship with her. Kate also expressed regret over the relationship by admitting that she has horrible taste in romantic partners.

As for what Below Deck viewers are watching now, Kate told The Daily Dish that she doesn’t think that her relationship with Ro had anything to do with the arguing that she and Ben Robinson had during filming. On the last episode, Kate and Ben got so loud while yelling at one another, over a dinner service miscommunication and misunderstanding, that the charter guests could hear.

“I don’t think he’s jealous of me dating somebody else; I think he’s just jealous that I can’t give him my full attention, which, he likes attention. I think that the fact that I’m dating someone has made Ben a little less tolerant of me and perhaps a little more edgy or sensitive, so it’s a little more difficult working together this season.”

Kate Chastain added that the tips the crew received over the season shows that she didn’t let her relationship with Ro affect her professionalism.

“I know Ben thinks I was a little distracted this season, and I was giving him less attention this season. However, I never let it interfere with my work, and I think the charter tips reflect that.”
