Police: ND Woman Raped Infant Multiple Times

A North Dakota infant has been the alleged victim of multiple sexual assaults, and a 21-year-old woman is now behind bars in association with the crimes. KFYRTV News reports that Hailey Tardif has been charged with various felonies, which stem from more than one incident involving the child victim.

Police in Jamestown say that the 21-year-old woman engaged in sexually inappropriate behavior with the unnamed 11-month-old baby. The incidents reportedly spanned between the beginning of February through late July of this year, meaning that she had multiple opportunities to sexually abuse the infant.

The name and gender of the infant haven’t been revealed in media reports, nor has the relationship between the 11-month-old child and the North Dakota woman. Authorities say that Tardif “willfully engaged” in sexual acts with the 11-month-old infant, which has led to more than one charge against her. This story is still in development, so it’s hopeful that more details come out, such as how this infant came to be in the care of the 21-year-old woman.

Sadly, this is far from the first time news reports have highlighted sexual crimes against a child. It’s also not the only time a woman has stood accused of committing these unspeakable crimes against children. In 2012, a Missouri woman named Tessa Vanverlah was sentenced to life imprisonment in association with the sexual assault of her own infant daughter.

Vanverlah reportedly met a 49-year-old man online, who had expressed interest in sex with children. While any normal mother would be completely disgusted by such a thing, the Missouri woman, instead, chose to meet this man in person. What resulted from this meeting ended in the long-term psychological damage of an innocent child. Both Vanverlah and the 49-year-old man raped the 5-month-old infant on multiple occasions.

In 2015, an Ohio mom pleaded guilty to the rape of her own infant daughter. Peggy Horstman reportedly met multiple men online, by posting provocative pictures of her daughter — who was under a year old at the time — to entice them. From there, she met at least two men, who directed her to perform sexual acts on the child during chat sessions. Ultimately, Horstman was sentenced to life imprisonment for the horrifying things she did to her own daughter. Furthermore, the two men who were convicted in association with the Ohio mom were also sentenced to life.

Earlier this year, a Tennessee woman named Rachael Boyett was arrested on accusations that she raped a child. The age and gender of the child hasn’t been disclosed, but the Tennessee woman has been charged with aggravated rape of a child. Authorities say that the arrest of Rachael Boyett coincides with the arrest of a man who was accused of “attempting to persuade a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction and distribution and possession of child pornography.”

As for this latest case out of North Dakota, 21-year-old Hailey Tardif has been charged with gross sexual imposition of a child, and child neglect. She may or may not face charges of child abuse as well. Reports say that she stands accused of “willfully engaging in sexual acts with a child younger than 15-years of age,” as well as “inflicting bodily or mental injury on a child younger than six.” With the charges against her, if convicted, the North Dakota woman could face several years in prison. No reports are sharing whether or not she has any prior criminal history.
