‘Game Of Thrones’ Season 7 Spoilers: Seven Things We Know

Game of Thrones fans are experiencing an agony like no other – a long wait for its next to the last season. With filming for Season 7 having just begun, we won’t be seeing new episodes until (gulp) summer of 2018. The good news is that filming has begun and we have gotten a few tidbits of information about what’s to come from some of the stars themselves as well as from some Game of Thrones fans with connections where filming takes place. Let’s take a look at what we know so far.

First, it appears that there will be another major battle scene. Will it be a truly epic one like the Battle of the Bastards? We don’t know. But Watchers on the Wall has reported that a casting call has been put out at a filming location in Spain for lots of extras. The location is Malpartida de Cáceres, and the call says it’s looking for people who preferably have military experience. The filming of this Game of Thrones battle scene will take place on the coast. The descriptions of the people they are looking for are reminiscent of the Unsullied and the scene will reportedly involve many horses as well as some carrying carriages.

So what could this big Game of Thrones battle be? Well, in the past, Spain has been used for filming Dorne scenes. And the carriages suggest the presence of royalty as an observer. So there are two possibilities here. One is that Cersei Lannister will be observing the rumored battle between Euron and the incoming voyagers Daenerys, Theon, and Yara. She is rumored to team up with Euron this season. But Cersei watching a battle? Is that likely? And why Dorne? We don’t know. The second possibility is a battle between the Unsullied and the Dornish while either Olenna Tyrell or Ellaria Sand watch. But why would they be at war after reaching an agreement in Season 6 of Game of Thrones? Well, we don’t know that either. Maybe some more info will leak that can fill in the gaps on this one. Filming will take place between November 14 and December 15. Maybe someone will get a sneak peek and let us know!

We also know that Jim Broadbent, best known for his role as Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter, will appear in Season 7 of Game of Thrones. Entertainment Weekly says that his role has not been revealed, but HBO has said that it is a “significant” one. Many are speculating that he will play Maester Marwyn. This role would be significant as he would be involved with Sam at the Citadel and could also be involved with Daenerys at some point.

The people over at The Independent say that both Thoros of Myr (Paul Kaye) and Beric Dondarrion (Richard Donner) are returning for Season 7 of Game of Thrones, with Thoros having more screen time than he has previously. The sightings of these two men has many believing that The Hound (Rory McCann) will also be returning as a member of the Brotherhood Without Banners. Iain Glen has also been sighted near where Season 7 of Game of Thrones is being filmed, sparking speculation that Ser Jorah will convince Thoros to use his magic to cure Jorah’s greyscale.

One last thing we know, lots of characters will die. Not a big surprise, given Game of Thrones’ history of killing off major characters. Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) spoke to Variety after the Emmys and said this about filming Season 7.

“It’s quite sad. It really feels like things are wrapping up and coming to an end. People are hanging around Belfast a bit longer to be around each other and be in each other’s presence.”

Which led Variety to remind her that there were two more seasons, not one. To which she replied the following.

“We’ve got one more season…well, not all of us.”

Sophie also indicated that viewers would question Sansa’s allegiance in the new episode. And Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) said that we’ll see a lot more characters we haven’t seen together for a while in the same place in Season 7 of Game of Thrones.
