#Missing24: Isaiah Washington Calls For A Nationwide Boycott To Address Police Brutality, ‘Black People, Stay Home’

Isaiah Washington is calling on African Americans to protest the recent police brutality in a much different way. Isaiah took to Facebook to suggest that black Americans should boycott the recent police killings on Monday, September 26, by not going to work, school, or shopping centers.

“Imagine if every single African American in the United States that was really fed up with being angry, sad and disgusted, would pick ONE DAY to simply ‘stay at home’ from every single job, work site, sports arena and government office in the United States of America. I’m very sure that within 72 hours from Wall Street to the NFL…Black Lives Would Matter. September 26, 2016 is THE DAY.”

In another post, Washington noted that he teamed up with #Missing24, which promotes the boycott and to spread awareness and support for African-Americans across the nation. He believes that the refusal to work for 24 hours will bring attention to the fractured criminal justice system that protects the police force even when they allegedly kill African Americans in cold blood.

“After a lengthy and substantive discussion with Madelon ‘Blue’ McCullough from #Missing24, we have united our efforts regarding boycotting the very system that was built on the backs of black people here in America. Every African born in America is fed up, hurt, confused, saddened and angry about the continued extrajudicial killings by public servants in our streets, so collectively we bring forth a solution.”

Isaiah revealed that he felt it is past time for a boycott and the best way to do that was to remove the black people from work, school, and shopping centers to show how the police brutality has affected America.

Terence Crutcher was killed by a police officer in Tulsa, Oklahoma after his car broke down in the middle of the street. Isaiah used a popular hashtag, #HandsUpDontShoot to bring awareness to his non-violent way to protest the police brutality. The hashtag gained popularity after the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed teen that was killed by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri.

On social media, many black American responded by stating they will participate in #Missing24 and refuse to go anywhere or eat anything that isn’t black owned.

Protests broke out in Charlotte, North Carolina after 43-year-old Keith Lamont Scott was shot by a police officer earlier this week. Scott later died from his injuries, and it prompted a major protest. Washington believes he has a better way to protest the killings without any violence. Isaiah believes that Americans need to visually see the damage the police brutality is doing to our country.

Apparently, the date Washington selected wasn’t just any date either. He carefully chose the time of the presidential debate scheduled to be moderated by Lester Holt, BET reports.

Many black Americans feel that something drastic needs to happen to stop the bloodshed of innocent African-American lives. Police Officers claim that the reason they have shot and killed innocent black lives was that they were scared that their lives were in immediate danger.

The problem is the police have not faced any legal ramifications for taking innocent lives, so the killing has gotten more and more frequent. It has brought the racial problem in America in the spotlight, and we finally see how big the problem is. It’s created division in the country, and many people aren’t sure how they feel about it.

The white Americans feel outraged about the police brutality but are unsure how to fight against it. Black Americans feel oppressed and scared; they believe that it’s time to take a stand against the racial injustice. It’s a battle they have been fighting for centuries, and on September 26, they will all stay in, refuse to work, go to school, or go shopping to protest the unjustified killings of black American men.

Are you going to participate in Isaiah Washington’s #Missing24 On Monday, September 26? Do you think 24 hours is enough to end police brutality?
