WWE News: Final Update On Goldberg Appearing At ‘WWE Clash Of Champions’

Bill Goldberg has such a strong connection with the WWE Universe that even after more than a decade since his last legitimate match, the fans are still clamoring for him to return to WWE in 2016. Over the past several weeks, there have been rumors about him returning at Wrestlemania 33 or even on Sunday night.

The WWE Universe became enamored with anticipation to see Goldberg on WWE programming again after he was announced as an unlockable character for WWE 2K17, which will be released next month. In the past, former WWE Superstars or legends have made returns or debuts in WWE, including the Ultimate Warrior, Sting, and others. The WWE Universe has become convinced that Bill Goldberg is “next.”

A recent report claimed that “the wheels are in motion” for Goldberg’s return to WWE, which created a lot of additional intrigue for Sunday’s WWE Clash of Champions PPV, especially after it was revealed that Goldberg would conveniently be in Indianapolis on Sunday night. Needless to say, the WWE Universe is in a frenzy thinking that Goldberg will finally return at WWE Clash of Champions tomorrow night.

As high as the speculation may be, sometimes it’s necessary to pop the bubble before certain members of the WWE Universe go into WWE Clash of Champions with false hope and high expectations. The possibility for Bill Goldberg to return to WWE isn’t dead, but the odds of him making his return this Sunday are unlikely.

According to a recent report, the bigger reason why Bill Goldberg was in Indianapolis in the first place was to do a podcast interview with Eric Bischoff. The fact that both men were going to do it in the same city and day as WWE Clash of Champions took place truly was a coincidence. It’s now being reported that the deal fell through or the timing didn’t work, but the podcast episode will not be filming on Sunday.

Unless this is the greatest swerve in the history of WWE returns, Goldberg will not be in Indianapolis on Sunday, which essentially rules out the majority of possibilities that he’ll be returning to WWE or making an appearance at WWE Clash of Champions this weekend. This is expected to disappoint a lot of fans, but that doesn’t mean his status for future WWE PPVs aren’t still up in the air.

The fact is that Bill Goldberg hasn’t wrestled in over twelve years. He’s a man in his fifties, so the potential for him to return and face Brock Lesnar in the squared circle isn’t very likely. The matchup between the two men is just as intriguing now as it was over a decade ago, but sometimes speculation is just that. Aside from a feud with The Beast Incarnate, there is still a lot more Goldberg could do on WWE television.

Obviously, the WWE Universe has been clamoring for the former WCW and WWE Champion so strongly that it would be a shame and even cruel to not have Goldberg return to WWE television even for a promo appearance to promote WWE 2K17. The WWE Universe may have to wait a few months, but betting odds would say that Goldberg is at the top of the list for WWE Hall of Fame honors this year.

The connection the WWE Universe has with Goldberg shouldn’t go to waste, but it should also be used to make the WWE product better. If the WWE fans continue to clamor for “Da Man,” eventually they’ll get what they want. They always do. For now, the fans just need to be patient. WWE will think of something.
