‘Descendants Of The Sun’ Cast To Add Lee Min Ho As Third Party Love Interest? Will He Cause Korean Drama’s SongSong Characters To Break Up?

Descendants Of The Sun Season 2 may have just got a new cast member. Rumor has it that Lee Min Ho, Boys Over Flowers’ breakout star, is set to join one of the most popular Korean dramas ever broadcast, Gamenguide reports.

According to Gamenguide, Min-Ho will play a third party love interest on Descendants Of The Sun Season 2. Lee’s character will join the South Korean Special Forces unit that Captain Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong Ki) is a part of. It will be love at first sight for Min-Ho’s character when he meets Dr. Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo) which could cause a lot of trouble for her relationship with Captain Yoo.

This news would also clear up a rumor that’s been going around that cast doubt on whether Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo, also known as “SongSong,” will be reprising their roles for DOTS Season 2. It seems that SongSong fans can breath a sigh of relief now. Their favorite onscreen couple will be back when the popular kdrama returns.

Other than the inclusion of a third party love interest played by Lee Min Ho, Descendants Of The Sun Season 2 may also change the relationship dynamic of the main couple, Captain Yoo Si Jin and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon. Both of the main characters will be married in the next season, and they may end up with kids by the end of the season.

In other Korean drama celebrity news, many SongSong fans were hoping that the two DOTS stars would announce their engagement on Joong Ki’s birthday. But his birthday was on September 19 and there was no news of a wedding proposal.

That doesn’t mean that all hope is lost for SongSong. Ever so often, either one of the Songs fuels the speculation that they are in a romantic relationship with their co-star. Song Joong Ki most recently did it at the Seoul Drama Awards 2016. As Asia Times reported, Song Hye Kyo did not attend the event, disappointing many Descendants Of the Sun fans. But her co-star — and rumored boyfriend — still made sure her name was mentioned at the awards show.

As Inquisitr previously reported, after Joong Ki picked up his award for his acting performance in Descendants, one of the hosts for the night asked him what he was thinking about in that moment. He replied that he was thinking about Song Hye Kyo and that she should have won the award that night. Cue the collective sighing from the millions of SongSong fans.

Descendants Of The Sun is one of the most viewed Korean dramas ever produced. It follows the love story of army captain Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong Ki) and Dr. Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye Kyo), whose relationship is tested throughout the show by obstacles both big and small. DOTS’ first season was 16 episodes long and premiered in February, 2016. According to Soompi, its season finale in April registered a 40 percent viewership rating, and the drama averaged approximately 30 percent viewership during the entirety of the series.
