Predicting The Future: WWE Stars Who Will Win Their First World Title Before The End Of 2017

The recent WWE brand split has opened up a ton of new opportunities for stars who would otherwise not be getting any recognition at all. Sure, there is a depth issue that is plaguing both of the rosters, but with time, and the correct booking, WWE will be able to circumvent their depth issues.

With the brand split came the introduction of the WWE Universal Championship, making it so each show has a World Championship. Does that mean more superstars will get an opportunity to hold a world title, or does that mean that we’ll be seeing the same people hold the world title for longer periods of time? We don’t know the answer to that question yet, but if it’s the former, then there are a few superstars who could and probably should win their first world title before the end of next year.

Even though their last pay-per-view match was advertised as their last ever bout against one another, it’s only a matter of time before Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens go one-on-one again, and their next match could very well be for Owens’ Universal Championship.

Owens is currently set to defend his Universal Title against Seth Rollins at this Sunday’s Clash of Champions. As of right now, Owens is the favorite to retain in that match.

Who will be next for Owens after that match? Well, the answer to that question is most likely Roman Reigns. However, if Reigns doesn’t end up being the guy, then maybe WWE will give Zayn a shot at the gold. Will he win it before the end of this year? Probably not. But will he win it before the end of next year? Obviously, we’ll have to wait and see, but the answer to that question should be yes.

  • Cesaro

Cesaro is arguably the most talented main roster star to have never won a WWE World Championship.

The best of seven series, which is tied at three a piece, between Sheamus and Cesaro is scheduled to conclude this coming Sunday night, and the winner of the best of that match will get a title shot. Of course, WWE hasn’t made it clear which title the winner will get a shot at, and most are assuming that it’ll end up being the United States Championship. You never know — it could be the Universal Championship.

Most are baffled that Cesaro hasn’t had a World Title run during his time in WWE. But that could change before the end of next year.

  • Samoa Joe

For reasons that are unknown, Samoa Joe hasn’t been called up to WWE’s main roster yet. He clearly has the potential to be the top heel in the company, and at 37-years-old, the clock is ticking on his full-time professional wrestling career.

Most believed that Joe was going to get called up during the WWE draft show this past July, but WWE decided to call up other, less-talented NXT stars instead — with the exception of Finn Balor, of course.

There’s no reason why Joe shouldn’t be on the main roster by the end of this year, and there’s certainly no reason why he shouldn’t be in the World Title picture at some point next year. Maybe he’ll get sent to SmackDown when he’s called up and face AJ Styles for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, which would mean that we’d be seeing a couple of TNA guys battle it out for WWE’s main prize.

  • Shinsuke Nakamura

Like with Samoa Joe, there’s really no good reason why Shinsuke Nakamura isn’t on the main roster, especially when you consider WWE’s depth issues and the fact that they don’t have a whole lot of over babyfaces.

Nakamura is the most charismatic guy in wrestling, and he’s also one of the best workers in the entire business. He knows exactly what to do, and when to do it. He also never does too much or too little in any of his matches. In short, he has all the skills anyone would ever need to be a successful main event star in WWE.

When will Nakamura finally get called up? That we don’t know. But WWE would be crazy to not call him up before the end of next year. When he finally does make it to the main roster, he’ll likely be put in a main-event position right away, and if Vince McMahon fully gets behind him, he should end up being the top babyface, and World Champion of whichever brand he ends up on.
