The 1975’s Matt Healy Talks Taylor Swift Again: What He Said

Matt Healy is opening up about Taylor Swift again. The 1975 frontman is almost willing to mention the singer-songwriter whenever he sits down for an interview. Matt Healy is now opening up to Rolling Stone about his feelings on the singer.

Matt Healy was asked about the time that Taylor Swift wore a 1975 T-shirt. Although the two have only met once, Healy and Swift have been linked up, especially when the singer attended one of the band’s concerts with some of her squad members. Healy wanted to address the dating rumors once again in the interview, reports NME.

“I said in one interview that we didn’t date, and some dick like Perez Hilton took it out of context and morphed it so it looked like I was throwing shade. She came to our show, and you would have thought that Barack Obama had come out. I don’t know another person on the planet that would elicit that kind of reaction.”

Then, Healy went on to compare Taylor Swift with arch enemy Kanye West. In case you forgot, the two are at war over West’s controversial lyrics in his song “Famous,” off his latest album, The Life of Pablo.

“Maybe Kanye, but not even him. And now she and he are the same kind of person in the public image. It’s weird.”

Before Swift, 26, dated DJ Calvin Harris, 32, for 15 months, she was seen spending a lot of time with Matt Healy of The 1975, reports Hollywood Life. The two met in October 2015. The two were photographed wearing each other’s tour merchandise. While Swift wore a 1975 T-shirt, Healy was spotted wearing a 1989 T-shirt, in support of her latest album. Swift then attended one of his concerts, and they even shot a video together for a fan, making the dating rumors circulate.

During his interview on the 2DayFM radio show on January 19, 2015, he denied the dating rumors, reports Hollywood Life. Healy said that although the two exchanged phone numbers, nothing has happened between them. Besides, Healy is from Australia while Swift still lives in the U.S.

“It’s fake. It’s all bloody fake. It’s a farce! Yeah, we met each other, we exchanged numbers in the same way that a lot of people in this kind of world do and we spoke occasionally. And she’s the biggest pop star in the world and I’m in Australia. There’s no like, relationship or anything happening. It’s just funny how people really, really buy into that.”

At the time, Healy seemed hopeful about starting up a relationship with the “Shake It Off” singer.

“We exchanged numbers. Let’s see what happens, she’s a sensation,” Healy confirmed in another interview according to the Daily Mail back in November 2014. Earlier this year, Healy had a change of heart when he slammed Swift in an interview with Q Magazine. The musician was asked about his flirtationship with Swift and he revealed that it was a “flirtation” which didn’t have much of an impact on his life, reports the Mirror.

“So the one time I did have a flirtation with a girl it ends up going everywhere… I mean, I got on E! News and people were like, ‘Who’s Matt Healy?’ So that was cool. But I didn’t make a big deal out of myself. It’s not really anything to talk about, because if she wasn’t Taylor Swift we wouldn’t be talking about her. She wasn’t a big impact on my life. It’s just interesting to me how interested the world is about Taylor Swift.”

The 26-year-old seemed totally okay with mentioning Swift to promote his latest album. But then he went on to say that he would never publicly date the singer and that he’s ready for commitment anyway.

“The reason I mention that is because if I had [properly] gone out with Taylor Swift, I would’ve been, ‘F***ing hell, I am not being Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ You know, ‘F*** that.’ That’s also a man thing, a de-masculating, emasculating, thing.”

Swift has never responded to Healy’s offensive comments. Since then, it seems like the artist won’t stop talking about her. What are your thoughts? Do you think Healy should stop talking about Swift in his interviews, even if he gets asked about her? Sound off below in the comments section.
