Dad Reportedly Drowns 3-Year-Old Girl In Pool, Caught On Camera, Gets 100 Years

Warning! Disturbing Content

Jose David has been jailed for 100 years after a CCTV camera caught him reportedly drowning his 3-year-old stepdaughter in a swimming pool, according to International Business Times. In the disturbing footage, the father is seen throwing the little girl into the swimming pool, multiple times knowing that she could not swim.

On one occasion, the scared girl is thrown fully clothed into the water, with her stepfather walking away. At another point in the video, he is seen holding the little girl’s head down in the water for a few seconds.

A third time he flings the girl in the middle of the swimming pool where the girl splashes frantically to stay afloat. The girl screams for help, but her stepfather stands unmoved, watching the little girl fight for her life. He even taunts the little girl, by throwing a life buoy into the water, leaving it just out of the girl’s reach.

Surprisingly, there were other people in the pool, who did nothing to save the little girl. All of them hurriedly left the scene, rather than confront the stepfather or save the girl.

The young girl’s mother had left her daughter with her stepfather while she took a nap in the hotel room. She woke up to the lifeless body of her daughter slumped in front of the television. A registered nurse, she tried to revive the girl, before rushing her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Jose was arrested a short time after the incident. He feigned ignorance that the little girl had drowned in the swimming pool. The mother believed her daughter had been murdered until she saw the shocking footage of her husband deliberately drowning her in the pool.

Jose’s murder trial was a short one. He refused to testify and was found guilty of aggravated murder based on the callous and incriminating surveillance video footage that captured him drowning the toddler.

Prosecutors had recommended a 40 year-sentence without the possibility of parole. The presiding judge increased the sentence to 100 years after watching the repulsive video. Judge Garcia Cardona said Jose threw the little girl repeatedly into the water, dragged her out by her hair and held her underneath the water, depriving her of breath.

The horrifying tragedy occurred in August last year, in the city of Morelia, Mexico. The video was recently released by authorities and has caused global outrage. An attempt by the defense to establish that the toddler had died outside the pool was shut down vehemently by the judge.

This is not the first time a parent would be held liable for drowning a toddler. In July, James Johnson III and Amber Johnson were arraigned on child abuse, involuntary manslaughter and second-degree murder charges for their two-year-old daughter Monika, who drowned in a neighbor’s pool.

Police said Monika and her three-year-old brother had left the house around 10:30am as their parents slept and climbed over a chain link fence into a neighbor’s backyard. Monika allegedly tried to get on a ladder to reach the pool and fell in.

The neighbor retrieved the little girl and made efforts to revive her before medical personnel arrived. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but died the next day.

Police said that the drowning was a culmination of other events, including a time when the deceased and her brother were found walking the streets alone without parental supervision. Prosecutor, Kym Worthy had slammed the couple, saying their actions were “defying common sense” and the death of Monika was “completely preventable.”

A neighbor had testified that the couple received frequent visits from child protective services and had been charged a week prior to the little girl’s death with misdemeanors for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Authorities said the couple posed a grave risk to children and banned them from having contact with their remaining children, pending their sentencing.
