Pottermore Releases Magical New Patronus Quiz, Harry Potter Fans Could Not Be Happier
Pottermore has released a new Harry Potter quiz, and it is magical beyond measure. Bringing almost a year-long rumor to rest, the digital entertainment website which has engaged Potter fans in the absence of new books and films in the series now releases the much anticipated Patronus quiz.
That’s right, Potter fans can now find out what their Patronus is on Pottermore and as expected (or should we say, ‘Expecto?!’) Potter maniacs could not be happier.

Pottermore releases the new quiz amidst sustained rumors since 2015, as reported by Bustle, that a new quiz, that would determine each user’s own personal Patronus, was forthcoming. Shortly before releasing the immersive quiz, Pottermore changed its display photographs on Twitter, prompting fans to go into a whirlwind of speculations as to what it could mean.
For most, the dark forest background image seemed to suggest a long-awaited Patronus quiz.
In the Potter universe, a Patronus is a charm that harnesses the power of a witch or wizard’s happiest memories in order to ward Dementors away. Dementors are dark creatures who feed on unhappiness, therefore the corporeal form of a Patronus is conducive to chasing it away.

Patronuses are invoked with the spell Expecto Patronum, and their forms are of animals. Each witch or wizard has a specific type of animal as her or his Patronus — and this is where the quiz proves interesting. With a rather wide variety of animals on the list, Pottermore has delighted fans by scarcely repeating an animal yet.
However, with animals ranging from stoats to basset hounds, to more famous and singular characters, not everyone is too excited, as evident in the funny tweet that Rowling herself shared.

Pottermore had earlier offered an opportunity to determine one’s house in both Hogwarts and its American counterpart, Ilvermorny. The former, with its history of the seven books, had proved more popular than the latter — which will feature in the soon-to-be-released Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Through an elaborate quiz involving a few steps, fans could proudly boast of their status as a Gryffindor or a Hufflepuff or a Ravenclaw, or dare we say it, a Slytherin.
The site now welcomes you to a dark interface where a blue fire kindles on while the quiz loads. Once inside, users are taken on a truly magical experience through the Forbidden Forest.
Fans are given an opportunity to remember the scene in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, where Potter cast his Patronus Charm and saved the life of his godfather, Sirius Black. Harry’s own Patronus — a stag — wanders around the trees. The mouse leaves a trail of silver stars, acting as a default wand.
The quiz begins with users being urged to remember their happiest memory and then progresses to ask them timed questions about the essence of the memory. Finally, with a last click and drag, the animal which is to be the Patronus is revealed.

The experience does not compare with the kind of content and quizzes that Pottermore releases usually.
With the ethereal sound effects, giving way to the calm music to which a Patronus bounds up and down, leaving a silver trail, the quiz constitutes quite the otherworldly experience.
In the Harry Potter books, a Patronus is often the reflection of the inner self of a witch or wizard — their spirit animal — which increases the factor of intrigue surrounding such a quiz.
At the heart of the quiz, reports USA Today, is a “secret algorithm.”
“…[U]sers are able to discover and ultimately be presented with their Patronus — which has been chosen for them using J.K. Rowling’s own secret algorithm.”
With both “Pottermore” and “Expecto Patronum” trending on Twitter, the fact that fans have been having a field day with the quiz is an easy conclusion to arrive at.
Pottermore releases the quiz amidst Potter loyalists’ dissatisfaction with the play text of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and as an authentic trip down memory lane, the quiz scores several points.
