When Is ‘Chicago Fire’ Back? When Will ‘Chicago Fire’ Season 5 Premiere On NBC?

Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med both return this week for the fall TV 2016 schedule. The start of one Chicago franchise is missing, though. Just when will Chicago Fire Season 5 premiere on NBC? How long do fans need to wait?

Chicago Fire is definitely coming back. NBC confirmed the renewal of all the One Chicago shows (with Fire being renewed back in November 2015) and even green-lit the pilot episode of Chicago Justice. Fans will need to wait until January for the legal side of the franchise, but what about the show that made it all possible? When is Chicago Fire Season 5 going to make it to TV screens?

Unfortunately, there is still a while to wait. The premiere of Season 5 isn’t going to happen until October 11! It will remain in the 10 p.m. slot on the network, suggesting that this is the perfect time for viewers.

The date shouldn’t be too much of a surprise for fans. Season 4 wasn’t released until October 13 of last year, despite its first spinoff, Chicago P.D., getting a September 30 release date. It is unknown why producers decide to do this with the shows. Some fans have even asked for the three current Chicago shows to air back-to-back on the same night as each other, which should make crossover episodes much easier. This doesn’t look like it will be a plan in the near future. Chicago Fire will take Tuesday nights, P.D. Wednesdays, and then Med will take Thursdays on NBC.

Fans of Chicago Fire were left wondering what would happen between Casey and Dawson in the end. It took almost the full season to reveal that Casey would decide to put his love for Dawson first and return to her after second-guessing the decision to adopt. Dawson went ahead with the adoption anyway and was approved to become Louie’s mom at the end of Season 4. Casey also made the decision to see Dawson rather than go to Susan Weller’s hotel room.

Chicago Fire Season 5 will focus on their relationship again as they take a new chapter together. They will become parents to Louie and start to question whether constantly putting their lives on the line is the right thing to do for him. Will one of them decide to leave the fire service? They both have other career options if they do, but it depends if that would be enough for both.

There is some disappointment for fans of the couple, though. The two won’t get married — at least, not at the start of the season. The International Business Times reports that Fire executive producer Derek Haas confirmed that they will just take a new chapter, and it will not involve wedding bells.

As for other characters, Mouch and Brett will also start their new journey together. There aren’t any more details on that relationship yet.

Chief Boden will still need to deal with Jimmy, who is angry about his brother’s death. Chicago Fire Season 4 saw the two going head-to-head, and it looks set for this battle to continue. It is unclear whether Jimmy will leave the firehouse sometime during the season or whether Boden will make a decision to leave.

As long as Chicago Fire Season 5 does well with the ratings, the show doesn’t look to be in any danger of cancellation. It should be renewed early for a sixth season again, considering it received a 4.3 out of 5 rating from Rotten Tomatoes, according to Release-Date.info.

Are you ready for the Chicago Fire Season 5 premiere? Don’t forget to mark October 11 in your diaries for the return of the original One Chicago show.
