A potential Chris Brown/Rihanna reunion has long been in the cards, and reports of late have seen the two spending a lot of “friendly” time together. Today, Chris Brown has added fuel to the speculation, perhaps confirming his intentions to gossip media outlets by officially breaking things off with girlfriend Karrueche Tran.

According to TMZ, Brown made an official announcement regarding the demise of his relationship with Tran, in which he cites his career and specifically, the conflict of interest stemming from his newly-rekindled friendship with his ex, Rihanna.

“I have decided to be single to focus on my career. I love Karrueche very much but I don’t want to see her hurt over my friendship with Rihanna,” said Brown, adding, “I’d rather be single allowing us to both be happy in our lives.”

Chris Brown and Rihanna have become quite close again over the past several months. Not only have there been several cryptic tweets going back and forth between the two (particularly well-wishes from Rihanna regarding Brown’s court appearances) there were rumors and photos suggesting some romantic flirtation between the two at MTV’s VMAs, and the would-be couple were spotted last night in Brooklyn together at a Jay Z concert.

So Chris Brown’s break-up with Tran seems to be a pretty clear indication that he’s heading back into a relationship with Rihanna, especially since he’s been dangerously overlapping time between the two women.

Tran herself responded to Brown with her own cryptic tweet:

We don’t have what you’d call a flattering opinion of Chris Brown (or Rihanna for that matter) but if there’s one thing we hope for these two, it’s that Brown keeps his hands to himself this time around.
