‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Nick Stabile To Come Back As Nikolas Cassadine Given Tyler Christopher’s Departure? [Updated]

Fans of General Hospital have been buzzing about the Nikolas Cassadine situation as there have been recent developments that have turned things upside down. Tyler Christopher took a break from the series several months ago, but he had recently indicated that he hoped to return soon. Nick Stabile temporarily took over the role, but he departed a while back when Nik was shot and left for dead. Where do things stand with the Cassadine character now?

The last that viewers saw of Nikolas Cassadine with Nick Stabile in the role, Valentin and his goons had shot him, and he was presumed dead. Recently, some items of Nik’s, including the diamonds, were sent to Elizabeth after Cassadine’s supposed death, and that confirmed for viewers that he may still be out there somewhere. The show hasn’t addressed Nik since then really, with so much focus on Julian’s trial and Paul as the “Angel of Mercy” killer. However, this Cassadine figure is too tied to too many storylines to stay unmentioned for long.

Tyler Christopher’s break had initially been termed as temporary, and over the summer at a fan event, he detailed that he hoped to return as Nikolas in September. Unfortunately, it was recently revealed that he would not be back on General Hospital after all. The buzz had been that the departure was due to difficult contract negotiations, and Soap Opera Digest reports that the series and the actor ultimately could not come to terms.

Shortly after the reports emerged that Christopher would not return as Cassadine on General Hospital, Tyler posted a tweet thanking his fans for all of their support, noting that they are what he will miss most. He went on to banter with some of his former castmates and post about upcoming GH events, and he confirmed for his followers that he would still attend those that he had already committed to doing.

Given the news about Christopher departing for good, what does that mean for Nikolas? It did not take long for many General Hospital fans to start buzzing about the idea of bringing Stabile back for the role. His initial run won over a great many viewers as his take on Nikolas had a lot of chemistry with Ava and had viewers buzzing. Not everybody was completely smitten with him in the role, but Stabile seemed to take it in stride.

While it is not known yet whether General Hospital is looking to bring Nick back, he has made it clear that he is interested as Stabile tweeted that he’d love to step back into the role. The actor has gone on to retweet many other posts from GH fans buzzing over the idea of seeing him back in the Cassadine role, and the header on his Twitter page shows him on the sudser as well. It sounds pretty certain that if the show asks, he’ll gladly accept the opportunity to return, and he has been thanking fans for their support for the idea..

As Celeb Dirty Laundry points out, there are a lot of hot-and-heavy storylines playing out right now, so there is not necessarily an urgent need to recast Nikolas and bring him back right this moment. However, there are a lot of loose ends out there with the Cassadine situation, and it would be hard to imagine General Hospital just leaving Nik gone and supposedly dead.

So far, the show has not revealed anything regarding their plans to possibly recast using Stabile or anyone else, and the latest spoilers do not hint at anything specifically involving Nikolas on the horizon.
