Why We Should Stop Bringing Up Jennifer Aniston In Every Brangelina Conversation

Jennifer Aniston has not only won numerous acting awards in her illustrious career, she is also the fourth-highest paid actress in the world.

Really, Aniston has it made. She worked hard to get to where she is today. She earned that rare distinction only the best actors can ever achieve and the least we could do is allow her to be defined by the accomplishments she earned as an actress.

But sadly, we’re all talking about Jennifer Aniston on account of a past relationship that ended more than a decade ago.

Granted, it’s almost impossible not to bring up Jennifer Aniston in light of the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie divorce, the news of which broke the internet earlier today.

It’s hard to ignore on account of the curious circumstances of her split from Pitt, which happened 11 years ago. Amid the intense speculation that Pitt got romantically involved with Jolie on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, at a time when he was still married to Jen, fans were quick to accuse Jolie of stealing her husband on the set. The “Poor Jen” narrative only intensified when Jen finally broke up with Pitt. Not long after that split, a photo of Pitt, Jolie, and her adopted son Maddox, emerged.

Two warring factions emerged. Team Aniston and Team Angelina. The fans, as well as the media, ate it up.

Since then, Pitt and Jolie have been busy raising their six children. Aniston, on the other hand, has won multiple acting awards, earned the mantle of The Most Beautiful Woman Alive, and racked up an estimated net worth of $150 million, among many other things.

In the interim, Aniston has been romantically linked to Vince Vaughn, singer John Mayer, British model Paul Sculfor, Orlando Bloom, and Gerard Butler.

Jennifer is now engaged to actor-screenwriter, Justin Theroux, who she has been dating since 2011.

Considering her stellar career and budding romance with her fiance Theroux, one can safely assume that Aniston is already living a happy life. In that vein, it would seem illogical to think that she would care one fig about what’s going on between Pitt and Jolie.

But when Pitt and Jolie did confirm their divorce early today, netizens all over the world just can’t seem to stop talking about Jennifer Aniston. Countless memes and gifs of a victorious Aniston started flooding the web as if they know for a fact that that’s what Jen really felt the moment she learned of the much-talked about split.

It also begs the question, are we really celebrating the divorce of two parents who also happen to have six children? How about we think of the kids first?

To be fair, those Jennifer Aniston gifs were loads of fun.

As to what Aniston thought about Brad Pitt’s split with Angelina Jolie, a source told US Weekly hat Jen “admittedly feels sort of satisfied about Brad and Angelina’s split,” but she also “never wanted this for them or wished this on them.”

Which brings us to an important consideration in light of the Brangelina split. Why do we keep bringing up Jennifer Aniston as if she can only be defined by a relationship that ended more than a decade ago? And why do we have to keep pitting women against each other? Considering the accomplishments she achieved throughout her career, it doesn’t seem fair to think of her solely as Brad Pitt’s ex. No woman, especially not Jen, should be defined by a man.

And lest we forget, Jennifer Aniston made it clear in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she and Brad Pitt “wish nothing but the best for each other.”
