Texas Man In Trouble After Pictures Of Him Dragging Young Daughter By Her Hair Go Viral: Images Receive 130K Shares In One Day [Photos]

A Texas father may find himself in deep trouble after pictures showing him dragging his 5-year-old daughter by her hair in a Walmart store went viral on Facebook.

The pictures were captured by alarmed shoppers Erika and Robert Burch after they spotted the man dragging his young daughter by her hair by wrapping it around the top of a shopping trolley as they went through the supermarket, reports KTLA. According to Erika, the young daughter repeatedly pleaded with her father to let go of her hair in front of the shoppers, crying, “Please stop. I promise I won’t do it again. Please stop.”

But despite an array of onlookers making it difficult for the Texas man to continue punishing his daughter, the father did not stop mistreating the young girl.

According to Erika’s version of the events, she and her husband, Robert, had been buying food for their children’s school lunches at Walmart when her husband pointed out that a man was dragging his daughter by her hair. The young girl, evidently in pain, was begging her father to stop but to no avail. Disgusted at the way the Texas man was treating his daughter, Erika, who has three daughters of her own, confronted the man and asked him to stop abusing his daughter, but she was told to “mind my own business.”

“I have three little girls of my own. I’ll be damned if I’ll ever let anybody pull them by the hair of their heads,” Erika told the Chronicle.

Concerned for the young girl, Erika Burch telephoned the police, and an officer who was present in the store told her that he could not act unless there were physical injuries on the body of the young girl. Despite Erika Burch showing the officer photos of the alleged abuse, the sergeant allegedly told her that the Walmart shopper “has the right to discipline his children.”

It was now, after having no recourse left to her, that Erika took to Facebook to vent her frustration at what she felt was clearly not a case of disciplining a child, but of sheer abuse. Her Facebook post, where she posted pictures of the young child crying and pleading with her father, urged the public to take the matter to Child Protective Services. The post has since gone viral on the social media site, garnering 130,000 shares at the time of writing.

“PEOPLE THIS IS WHATS WRONG WITH THIS WORLD TODAY! NOBODY STANDS UP FOR ANYONE NOT EVEN CHILDREN!! NOW THIS BABY HAD TO GO HOME WITH THIS MONSTER THINKING THAT NOBODY CARED ABOUT HER AND ITS OKAY FOR THIS ANIMAL TO PULL HER BY THE HAIR OF HER HEAD!!!! The pictures of the young girl have sparked a social media outrage with most viewers saying that what the Texas father was doing was not an act of disciplining his child, but he was publicly humiliating her.

“People are telling me I’m wrong for stepping up for this little girl, but you can discipline a child without dragging them by the hair on their head, especially in Walmart,” Burch told ABC News’ Texas affiliate.

A particularly troubling thought among the viewers was that if the Texas father could so brazenly abuse his young girl in front of the whole world, one can only imagine how he would treat his children behind closed doors.

Erika Burch’s widely shared Facebook post finally prompted the Cleveland Police Department into action, and now a joint investigation has been launched by the police and Child Protective Services.

Cleveland Police Chief Darrel Broussard told reporters that they were meeting with the father featured in the pictures, reports Fox News.

“Police are concerned at this time for the children who may be in the home with the dad who appeared to have been a little aggressive at the time,” he said.
