Verizon Updates Samsung Galaxy Note 7 With Recall Notice & Safe Unit Indicator, Galaxy Tab S Gets Android Marshmallow

Verizon Wireless recently rolled out an update for Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Also, it’s Galaxy Tab S units are currently getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS update.

By now, every Note 7 user must have already heard about the massive recall that Samsung implemented for the smartphone due to reported explosions caused by faulty batteries. As expected, this quandary raised safety concerns among the phablet’s owners.

To address this matter, Verizon Wireless, one of the leading US network carriers, opened up a replacement program for their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 units. According to CNET, those who own the Verizon Note 7 can return their units until September 30 with the telecom company waiving the restocking fee. In addition to an exchange program, as another way to help their customers, Verizon recently released a software update for its Samsung Galaxy Note 7 model.

Essentially, the update with build number VRS2APHE comes with two significant purposes – the first one is to show a “Safety Recall Notice,” and the other one is to provide an indicator confirming that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 unit is safe.

After installing the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 7 update, and if it shows a white battery level indicator, meaning the unit may be prone to explosion, a “Safety Recall Notice” should appear on the screen. This recall information serves as a warning message specifically for Verizon subscribers who are still holding on to their fire-prone Note 7. The warning message that will pop up, as cited on Verizon’s official support page, read as follows.

“Your safety is our highest priority. Power down and stop using this device. The battery may overheat, posing a fire or burn risk.”

It also advises the owners to visit the official link for the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 recall or call Samsung at 1-844-365-6197. The “Safety Recall Notice” is programmed to appear after rebooting the phablet and when plugging it in for a battery recharge, GSM Arena noted.

The second function of the newest Samsung Galaxy Note 7 update released by Verizon is a great help for its customers to be relieved from worrying if their new unit is already safe or not. If they have already exchanged their Samsung phablet for a safe one and have updated it to the newest software version, they should see green battery indicators, instead of white, located in the status bar, the Always On Display, and in the power menu when turning off the 2016 phablet. The green battery icon basically confirms that the Galaxy Note7 is not susceptible to catching fire.

As for other recent Verizon updates, its model of Samsung Galaxy Tab S finally receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, which means users can now enjoy features like the battery-saving Doze, smarter virtual assistant service Now On Tap, and more. Installing the Samsung Galaxy Tab S update will bring the Android tablet to firmware version MMB29M.T807VVRU1CPG6, a separate report from GSM Arena specified.

The new firmware update also brought in new tools and pen options available in the Gallery app. Verizon also removed various apps from this update, including Amazon Music, Amazon Appstore, VZ Navigator, WebEx and e-Meeting (stub).

The Verizon updates for Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and Tab S are both available via Over-the-Air or OTA process. An automatic notification should appear, telling users that a firmware update is available for their device. Once it pops up, simply follow the on-screen prompts to proceed with the download and installation procedures.

To manually check if the Verizon update is already available, just head to your Samsung device’s Settings menu, look for About Device and then choose Software Updates. Tap Check for Updates afterward.

Make sure to have a reliable Wi-Fi connection or a strong data connection from Verizon to download the firmware update without hassles. Also, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and the Galaxy Tab S need to be fully charged for the update process to ensue.
