U.S. Open Swings Into Action, Roger Federer Wins Opening Match In Straight Sets

New York, NY (AHN) – The 2009 U.S. Open is underway in New York where the world’s top ranked men’s player is playing for his sixth straight championship.

Roger Federer won his first match in three sets. He beat American Devin Brittion 6-1, 6-3, 7-5.

Britton held the first three services in the second set, but Federer played like Federer the rest of the way.

Kim Clijsters also advanced winning 6-1, 6-1 Viktoriya Kutuzova.

Venus Williams and Andy Roddick highlight Monday evening. James Blake and Lleyton Hewitt also have first round matches Monday.

Serena Williams is playing Monday afternoon against Alexa Glatch.
