‘Empire’ Spoilers: What To Expect In Season 3

Empire returns for Season 3 on Wednesday, and the Lyon family is dealing with more drama than ever. New spoilers for the upcoming season have slowly started circulating, and it seems that everyone’s lives will be turned upside down throughout the course of the season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the Empire Season 2 finale left fans with a huge cliffhanger. Viewers watched as Rhonda finally remembered that it was Anika who pushed her down the stairs and caused her to lose her baby. In retaliation, Rhonda found Anika, who is currently pregnant with Hakeem’s baby, on a rooftop, and the two women began to struggle.

At the end of the episode, Rhonda’s husband, Andre, found the women fighting and begged them to stop as one, or both of the women went over the ledge. It seems that at least one of them won’t make it. It has already been confirmed that one of the women is definitely dead, and rumors are flying that Rhonda will be the character killed off in the Empire Season 3 premiere.

Meanwhile, Andre, who may be dealing with the loss of his wife in Season 3, will become closer with his grandmother, Leah. Both characters have a mental illness, which will draw Andre to Leah even further. Trai Byers, who plays Andre on the series, recently spoke out about his character’s new bond.

“Leah and Andre are the most, I guess, alike in Andre’s world. She has from the beginning seen something in Andre that she identifies in herself. It’s almost like the two are looking at each other but they’re looking into a mirror.”

Meanwhile, Jamal, played by Jussie Smollett, will be dealing with the aftermath of his shooting. As many Empire viewers will remember, Jamal was shot by Freda Gatz in Season 2’s penultimate episode. Jamal will now be dealing with PTSD after the shooting, and he will be forced to see a counselor, Phillip. Jamal will become romantically drawn to Phillip, and it appears that yet another love interest will enter Jamal’s life.

“It’s someone that for the first time gives no f—s about Jamal’s fame,” says Smollett. “He just genuinely is not affected by the money, and it’s a very, very honest relationship.”

Empire fans will also watch as Hakeem, played by Bryshere Gray, will deal with the fact that he’s been left at the alter by Laura. Hakeem will try to rebound in true Lyon fashion with another woman. The youngest Lyon brother will set his sights on his ex-girlfriend, Tiana, but she already has a new boyfriend, rival rapper Gram. However, Gram, who was supposed to be played by Kid Cudi, has been recast with Romeo Miller in Season 3.

Empire Season 3 won’t skimp on the guest star appearances either. In addition to Romeo Miller, Mariah Carey, Phylicia Rashad, Tay Diggs, Xzibit, and Sierra McClain will all be seen during the upcoming season of Fox’s hit drama series.

As for Empire‘s driving force, Cookie and Lucious, fans will dive deeper into their relationship and their past in Season 3. Flashbacks to a teenage Cookie and Lucious will be seen, and fans will find out that Cookie had a choice to be with an outstanding young man, but fell in love with Lucious and chose him instead.

The demons of the past will continue to haunt Lucious, as his half-brother Tariq, a federal agent, will continue to try and take him down. Executive producer Ilene Chaiken reveals that Tariq is going to cause some big problems for Lucious in Season 3.

“We’ll find out that he’s been involved and possibly was even behind the investigation early on, but now he’s coming forward with added conviction. It’s an obsession to take Lucious down.”
