‘Better Call Saul’ Season 3 Release Date: What Are Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould Working On?

Better Call Saul has been renewed for a third season and will pick up where it left off.

The showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are continuing as the head writers in Season 3. The Better Call Saul release is expected to follow the last two seasons schedule and premiere in February, 2017.

At the end of Season 2, we saw that Chuck had recorded Jimmy’s confession to forging documents regarding his legal case.

The series takes us back six years before the events of Breaking Bad. The show tells us how a small-time public defender Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman – a criminal lawyer for a meth dealer in Albuquerque.

In Better Call Saul Season 3, Vinge Gilligan and Peter Gould give us a teaser about what Chuck is going to do with the evidence in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“This is something we hash out every day in the writers’ room, and we’re going to find out. Without a doubt, it feels like Chuck is about to make some really big move against Jimmy. And I think one of the questions is: Jimmy is the guy who will run to his brother’s aid when he needs to. Is that still going to be true after he finds out that he’s been played, and he’s been had? These brothers have suffered such a rift already — what’s the next step? At what point does Jimmy’s love, respect, and caring for his brother become permanently broken?”

Since Kim Wexler is not in Breaking Bad, she is the mystery of the show and is a major factor in Jimmy becoming Saul. Season 3 is going to explore Jimmy and Kim’s relationship, which is in direct conflict with their careers.

Chuck using technology to trap his brother is something Jimmy wouldn’t have seen coming. The show runners confirm that Jimmy is in a bad spot. Season 3 will show how McGill reacts to being outsmarted by Chuck.

We will also find out if Chuck uses the information to blackmail Jimmy or get revenge another way. Also, Chuck is aware that he somewhat relies on Jimmy due to his condition.

Vince Gilligan discusses with EW how Chuck is not so different from his brother Jimmy.

“And the ending to us seemed to be the revelation to the audience that it sure looks like Jimmy’s in trouble, and that Chuck had done something extraordinary for Chuck, which is to use electricity and electronics to his benefit. And to be as good as a scam artist — perhaps it could be argued even a better scam artist than his Slippin’ Jimmy scamming brother. But yeah, it seemed like the right moment to end the season, and where it goes from here, we’re as interested to find out as anyone.”

Fans wonder whether Chuck’s next move is what turns Jimmy into Saul. However, the showrunners are keeping it to themselves. We won’t know if Saul emerges until the series premieres next year.

Some Breaking Bad references and storyline is expected in Season 3. Gus Fring’s return was teased with the title of each episode last season.

We will see how Jimmy McGill and Mike get involved with the mild-mannered drug lord.

In the finale of Season 2, Jimmy refused to commit Chuck at the hospital and confessed to a crime he could have got away with to help Chuck feel better. These factors are likely to influence Chuck’s next step.

In Season 3, we also find out how Jimmy’s forgery affects his relationship with Kim when everything is laid on the table.
