Lena Dunham and her HBO show Girls has been criticized for having a mainly white cast. But Dunham promised that the cast would get more diverse for its second season.

Dunham said that she was “heartbroken” that her show made anyone “feel isolated.” The Emmy nominated star said that she created the show to make women feel powerful and felt terrible that the show was making some people feel bad about themselves.

Dunham said at Fortune magazine’s annual Most Powerful Women Summit:

“All I want to do is make women feel excited and included by the show … a multitude of new characters in the show. (There are) women of color who want to see themselves reflected on screen. All I want to do is make women feel excited and included by the show.”

Dunham, just 26-years-old, was recently nominated for four Emmy Awards for her hit comedy Girls. Dunham writes, directs, and stars in the new show. The young star has a lot of freedom on her show but also said that she feels a lot of pressure since she is so young.

Dunham said:

“I don’t want to do anything that is going to make them think ‘this is why we don’t give shows to 25-year-old girls . I’d love to have a small dog, (but) I don’t think it would be good for all of us if I were to carry a small dog to set with me.”
