Newt Gingrich: Never Trump Republicans Are Cray-Cray [Video]

Newt Gingrich scolded the Never Trump movement as “deranged” and for living in the past in an interview with Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel.

Gingrich, the former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has become one of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s key surrogates in the media. He was also supposedly strongly considered to join Trump on the Republican ticket as the New York real estate mogul’s VP running mate.

Although Trump’s often over-the-top rhetoric has generated much negative coverage in the mainstream or legacy media, many would argue that the press traditionally seems to put the Republican candidate under far more of a fact-checking microscope than the Democrat counterpart in presidential election cycles past and present. CNN, in particular, has been aggressive in this regard in its anti-Trump coverage. Both WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and progressive journalist Glenn Greenwald of Edward Snowden fame, neither of whom are politically conservative, have argued that the media is lockstep pro-Hillary and against Trump, for example.

Perhaps the difference in this particular election cycle is that a cartel, as it were, of pro-Ted Cruz conservative websites and pundits have also joined in presenting any Trump campaign mishap, whether real or imagined, in an unfavorable light. A few prominent members of the #NeverTrump cohort have had second thoughts recently, however, and have moved to the reluctantly or probably Trump column.

“Republicans that identify as ‘Never Trump’ have said they will not vote for the GOP nominee because he is not conservative enough — or for similar reasons– and have often gravitated toward Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson, as well as Evan McMullin, an independent candidate who announced his bid in August,” Fox News Insider explained.

In his TV exchange with Gingrich, Sean Hannity — who is big-time Trump fan — explained that he has been bickering with stubborn Never Trump establishment Republicans about their allegedly trying to sabotage the Trump/Pence campaign.

Apparently, the Fox News anchor has been unable to get through to them that, as he sees it, the outcomes between a Trump or Clinton presidency when it comes to Supreme Court appointments, Obamacare, border security, terrorism, Common Core, and energy policy would be vastly different.

“It’s inexplicable to me that these people are assisting…Hillary,” Hannity declared.

That’s when Gingrich weighed in on Never Trump.

“You and I have a slightly different take on this…My view is, if you so love the past that you want to write off the future, then ‘Never Trump’ makes some sense. Cling to the failed ideas. Cling to the failed bureaucracy. Cling to the projects that didn’t work. Cling to the war we didn’t win. If that’s what you want to do, that’s your right as a citizen. Don’t expect the rest of us to be impressed with it. This is a sign that you’re so mired down in the past, you’re so unable to see reality. You’re so unwilling to look at the future…But the key point here is, to suggest that there’s any realistic alternative to Donald Trump that’s going to be conservative is utterly out of touch with reality.”

“You’re getting mad at people who are deranged,” Gingrich added.

Separately, Reuters claims that the contest for 270 electoral votes to win the U.S. presidency is now essentially tied.

“An election analysis conducted in the Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation project shows that the race has tightened considerably over the past few weeks, with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump projected to win Florida, an essential battleground state, if the election were held today. The project, which is based on a weekly tracking poll of more than 15,000 Americans, shows that the 2016 presidential race could end in a photo finish on Nov. 8, with the major-party candidates running nearly even in the Electoral College, the body that ultimately selects the president.”

CNN also added about the Trump surge in the polls, “The battle for the White House — dominated by Hillary Clinton only weeks ago — is tightening dramatically, a nerve-wracking turn for Democrats that sets up what could be a nail-biter election in 52 days.”

“But as Hillary Clinton lurches toward Election Day, her supporters at times seem overwhelmed by a tsunami of unease, exacerbated by Mrs. Clinton’s bout of pneumonia and a slow-footed acknowledgment of the illness…The creeping dread has accelerated in recent days, reaching critical levels even by Democratic standards,” the New York Times acknowledged about the tightening polling numbers.
