‘Devil May Cry 5’ A No Show At 2016 Tokyo Game Show? — Will It Be A Surprise Announcement At Event?
Many Devil May Cry series fans were anticipating that Capcom would announce Devil May Cry 5 at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show. Unfortunately for them, there was no such announcement and fans now wonder if Capcom will reveal Devil May Cry 5 as a “surprise announcement.”
According to a written report by Gematsu way back in August, Capcom released a full list of games and panels they would be showcasing at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show happening this coming weekend. The list of games and panels are as follows.
- Monster Hunter Spirits for the Arcade
- Monster Hunter Stories for the Nintendo 3DS
- Monster Hunter Explore
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
- Toraware no Palm
- Street Fighter V
- Megami Meguri
- Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney 15th Anniversary Talk
- Sengoku Basara
- Dragon’s Dogma Online
It should be noted that Devil May Cry 5 is not listed anywhere on that list, but according to an article written by Mobile & Apps, many gamers who are fans of the Devil May Cry series thought a secret reveal of the rumored fifth game would happen because of noticeable gaps in Capcom’s schedule.
For example, on Capcom’s schedule for Saturday, September 17, there is a five-minute segment that is only marked as “talk.” It is argued that Capcom can possibly reveal a short video teaser for Devil May Cry 5 at that time. There is also another five-minute interval inserted towards the end of the day on Sunday, September 18. However, all of these theories are nothing more than speculation until we actually see it happen at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show.
If by chance Devil May Cry 5 is announced at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show, many gaming fans are wondering where it will fit in the Devil May Cry series timeline. Will it be a direct sequel right after Devil May Cry 2 or quite possibly Devil May Cry 4? Will it take place after DmC: Devil May Cry? According to a small smidgen of news reported by Ecumenical News, the upcoming Devil May Cry 5 might technically be a reboot of DmC: Devil May Cry. As many Devil May Cry fans remember, DmC: Devil May Cry was less than satisfactory among critics and gamers alike. Everything that made a Devil May Cry game what it is was heavily altered in Ninja Theory’s version of it.
Ergo, the rumor mill claims that Capcom will no longer be seeking Ninja Theory when it comes to future titles. However, it seems that Capcom will remain with the rebooted version if they are making a remake of DmC: Devil May Cry. Personally, it will be better if they make its sequel far better which in turn would be a mirror image of the original series. The original Devil May Cry was awesome while the sequel by all accounts is ignored and avoided even by Capcom themselves. On the other hand, it will be the other way around with the DmC reboot.
Right now, all we can do is wait and see what happens at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show which takes place this coming weekend on September 17 and 18. It is also possible that the two gaps of time may have nothing to do with a game, or it may be reserved for another game entirely. Besides the Devil May Cry series fan base, there is a strong following for the Onimusha Series too. The last game in that series was made back in 2012 with Onimusha Soul. For all other regions outside of Japan, the last game was Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams which released back in 2006.
