‘The Walking Dead’ Season 7 Spoilers: Robert Kirkman Says Focus Goes Off Rick Grimes And Group

The Walking Dead has followed the core group with Rick Grimes since the show began on AMC way back in 2010. It is the biggest show on television right now and that might be because fans have become truly intimate with the main characters.

But now that Season 7 of The Walking Dead is coming up on AMC this October, the show is about to take a drastic turn that may leave some fans disenchanted with the original allure that has kept them glued to TV screens across the nation.

As most people in the country already know, the introduction of Negan on The Walking Dead is a major game changer and that means there are some comparisons being drawn to how Negan is not much different than Rick Grimes. The major line of thought here is that the audience might have a much different attitude toward Negan if The Walking Dead TV show on AMC had followed him from the beginning instead of Rick Grimes and the core.

That is also something Robert Kirkman acknowledges and he spoke with Entertainment Weekly about why Season 7 of The Walking Dead will not just change the world they live in, but it will also be taking the focus off of Rick and the core at Alexandria and repurposing it toward Negan, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom.

This is actually something that fans of The Walking Dead really need, if for anything else, to understand both sides of the battle that is coming between Rick and Negan. It is important that fans understand that Rick is not the only one that has had to suffer and survive in the Walking Dead universe, which also means that Negan could have been through just as much, if not worse, than Rick Grimes.

“What we’re finding is there’s a lot of civilization out there. There are smaller groups here and there that actually have been thriving and it gets to be a little exciting because we’re going to be seeing how they’ve been surviving, and a lot of them have been getting by in a much different way than Rick and his group,” Robert Kirkman told Entertainment Weekly. “So we’re meeting these people that have lived in this apocalyptic situation for as long as Rick Grimes and his crew, who we’ve been following since day one, but we haven’t seen their evolution and their progression. And so some of them grow to be like Negan’s group, some of them grow to be like Ezekiel’s group, some of them grow to be like Gregory’s group at the Hilltop, and the differences between these groups, and their ways of life, is going to be a lot of fun to explore this season.”

Once The Walking Dead fans get past the cliffhanger question about who Negan killed, there is going to be something even bigger on the horizon. The real question at that point is about how The Walking Dead universe will be changed after the victim’s death.

That is also something that Robert Kirkman really wanted to stress to fans of The Walking Dead. You might be tuning in to the Season 7 premiere on AMC just to see who got killed, but you will be staying with the show once you see how the world has changed.

In the words of Robert Kirkman, that new world on The Walking Dead has only one way to describe it.

“I mean, the word is epic. The show is expanding,” Robert Kirkman said.

Robert Kirkman also mentioned that fans will get a sneak peek into the Saviors sanctuary on The Walking Dead Season 7. Tune into AMC on October 23 to get all the answers to your burning questions on The Walking Dead.
