Emma Thompson Shines In Leading Role, Debuts Her 16-Year-Old Daughter Gaia At Film’s Premiere

Emma Thompson will resolve a life-or-death legal case in an upcoming Richard Eyre-directed film, according to the Guardian. The 57-year-old actress has joined the cast of The Children Act.

Emma Thompson, who earlier won an Academy Award for her role in Howards End in 1992, has joined the film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s 2014 novel of the same name. The book is centered around a high court judge named Fiona Maye.

The Children Act will mark Richard Eyre’s eight-year long return to shooting big-screen features, as the last time he directed a feature film was in 2008 with The Other Man. The storyline is centered around Fiona Maye’s (Emma Thompson) struggles to resolve sophisticated and tricky cases.

In particular, Emma Thompson’s character will have to rule whether a 17-year-old suffering from leukemia should be forced to undergone a life-saving blood transfusion despite his religious beliefs that prohibit such procedures.

The film will not only mark Richard Eyre’s return but also Emma Thompson’s return to a leading role, as the actress has focused on playing supporting roles in the past few years. Now, the actress is finally starring in the lead role.

Emma Thompson’s most recent supporting roles include playing a psychiatrist in Burnt opposite Bradley Cooper as well as playing a sex worker’s mother in The Legend of Barney Thompson opposite Robert Carlyle.

However, Emma Thompson still continues taking up supporting roles, as she will be seen in Bridget Jones’s Baby, which hit theaters this week, in the role of an obstetrician. The Oscar-winning actress also stars in Noah Baumbach’s new movie, Yeh Din Ka Kissa.

Emma Thompson has recently revealed her pearl of beauty for the entire world to see, according to the Huffington Post. The Love Actually actress brought her 16-year-old daughter, Gaia, to the premiere of Bridget Jones’s Baby in London.

Emma Thompson and her daughter Gaia walked down the red carpet arm-in-arm and looked stunning together. Gaia, who clearly sports Emma’s good looks, opted for a one-shoulder jumpsuit, which she complemented with a bright red lipstick.

Emma Thompson, meanwhile, wore an all-red ensemble, beige shoes, and an orange purse. It’s been a long time since Gaia was seen in public, so she stunned everyone with how grown-up and gorgeous she looks now.

Gaia has clearly inherited Emma Thompson’s big eyes and tall stance, and with that makeup, some people had difficulties figuring out who that lady was who walked down the red carpet with the Oscar-winning actress.

And Emma Thompson, who showed up at the premiere without her husband, Greg Wise, looked happy to be accompanied by her gorgeous daughter. Gaia was photographed being introduced to British actress Celia Imrie, and then the 16-year-old girl sat down to allow her celebrity mother to meet her fans and pose in front of photographers.

After Gaia’s birth, Emma Thompson and her husband wanted to have a second child but had difficulties conceiving. After a few failed attempts at IVF, they decided to adopt an orphan from Rwanda, former child soldier Tindyebwa Agaba.

Tindyebwa is now 29-years-old and is an Exeter University graduate, while Emma Thompson’s biological daughter, Gaia, is still in high school. Last year, Thompson revealed that she and her husband decided to homeschool Gaia.

Gaia, who said school “wasn’t for her,” now has her own tutors and even a separate room dedicated to studies in her family’s garden. In his 2015’s interview with the Telegraph, Emma Thompson’s husband said that he had “no argument” with Gaia leaving school.

“She loves learning and she’s terribly focused and hardworking, but she didn’t like the sausage factory of formal education.”
