Calvin Harris’ New Song ‘My Way’ Takes Swipe At Taylor Swift

Music producer and DJ Calvin Harris has released a new song — and this time we actually get to hear his voice!

The song is blowing up on social media right now because fans are wondering if it’s about Harris’ ex–Taylor Swift.

Harris told iHeartRadio that he was just ready to sing a song.

“I like to sing on a song every two or three years, or so,” he said. “I just kind of thought it was a bit of a curve ball. I kind of like the idea of just tracking something out without a celebrity guest feature, and I think the vocal works so why not.”

Harris explained what the song’s about — “breaking out” — which begs the question: is it specifically inspired by their break up?

“[The] song’s kind of about breaking out of a situation that you thought was a good thing. Then, you’re way more comfortable out of it. And it could be anything. It could be a job, or it could be a relationship. I had kind of the idea for the concept for a few years, but I didn’t know how to work out how it sounded.

“I’ve been in the studio a lot. But it doesn’t necessarily mean I’ve been working. I just kind of mess around. Just trying to let the ideas come to me. Just trying to figure out what’s going on.”

Harris is more frequently known for his producing and DJ work, particularly for songs like “This is What You Came For” featuring Rihanna. However, his signature style is few and far apart. Calvin has said that he does not plan to put out another song this year.

“This [‘My Way’] is probably the last thing I’ll put out this year. I did something with Big Sean for him, which he said might be out this year — which I really hope it is, because I love that. Apart from that, that’s it. One song at a time. That’s my new mantra. Try to make each song as good as it can possibly be. I’m not trying to do an album. I’m just trying to do good music.”

This song stands out. Hearing Harris’ voice is still a new, unique, and enjoyable experience — one we don’t get very often, as noted by Billboard.

“[Calvin] decided to sing the lyrics of the new tropical house track himself. […] This isn’t the first time the producer decided to use his own voice: He also sang his hits ‘Feels So Close’ and ‘Summer.'”

But its lyrics also stand out. They’re raw and from the heart.

“Why wait to say, at least I did it my way? Lie awake two faced, but in my heart I understand. I made my move and it was all about you. I feel so far removed. You are the one thing in my way.”

Hearing lyrics like these, it’s not surprising that, according to Daily Mail, one Twitter user noted that Calvin totally just pulled a “Taylor Swift” on Taylor Swift.

The Inquisitr noted earlier this month that Harris had admitted to regretting his emotional expression on Twitter. British GQ reported Calvin’s new outlook on life.

“It was completely the wrong instinct. I was protecting what I see as my one talent in the world being belittled,” Harris told British GQ. “It felt like things were piling on top of me, and that was when I snapped. I’m not good at being a celebrity, but when it ended, all hell broke loose. Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure. It took me a minute to realize that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy.”
