Hillary Clinton’s GOP Supporters Want Cabinet Positions In Return For Getting Her Elected

A quick look at the national polls collected by The Huffington Post shows that between Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton and Republican Party nominee Donald Trump now with 53 days before the election, that Clinton has an average lead of four to five points.

For one day it seemed that Hillary Clinton was losing her lead down to a narrow three-point gap, but the latest polls show Donald Trump has fallen back to increase it to a four-point margin again, which safely assumes Hillary Clinton will win the presidency if everything holds firm. And given the way some traditional Republicans feel about their own nominee, they are more than happy to elect her into office.

That is detailed in a report by POLITICO, who says that her GOP supporters want something in return for their support and it looks like they might just get it.

The article says that her campaign CEO John Podesta and former Walmart executive Leslie Dach, who have also worked in both Clinton and Obama administrations, are courting Republican supporters who have also served in high positions in government, even former administrations, who are actively fundraising for Hillary in exchange for more than a few “seats” in her cabinet in order to influence her administration.

This is nothing new as previous presidents have had one or two seats available for positions from the opposing party.

But the article also points out that this will only frustrate progressives. And even more so since Bernie Sanders’ candidacy promised to inject a more progressive platform into her campaign, but those same progressives were enraged when evidence showing that Hillary Clinton’s campaign deliberately tried to sabotage his campaign was leaked out before the Democratic National Convention. That just goes to show another reason for them to not trust the Democratic Party’s nominee.

The headlines over the last two terms of the Obama presidency have been on the constant fighting between Democrats and Republicans, for which another Democratic Party administration following his will likely cause the stand-off between the two parties to be even worse. Another article by Inquisitr details the talk among some of her GOP supporters who are looking to put more pressure on her.

Even with that building climate of opposition, many of Hillary Clinton’s GOP supporters are looking at her candidacy in a positive light, given the fact that they find the Republican Party’s acceptance of Donald Trump gut-wrenching.

Inquisitr also covered the support from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for Hillary Clinton and their public rejection of Donald Trump, where they’ve said that she has been consistent with reaching out to them as opposed to Trump who made demands when first meeting with them last December.

In much the same way, the article says that the response defecting Republicans are getting from the Hillary Clinton campaign is convincing them that she will work with them and that they are meeting in the middle when talking about Podesta and Dach.

They’ve been identifying and wooing potential Clinton supporters from different GOP policy, political and business circles, and several Republican defectors who have gone public with their endorsements say the campaign has been quick to swoop in and help them publish and distribute statements and op-eds declaring support, to coordinate media interviews and assisting in wider Republican networking efforts.

At this point in the campaign, it’s clear that she’s already started to operate as if she’s in the oval office.

A more centrist approach to a Hillary Clinton administration is certain and the article goes further into pointing out her record in the Senate, where she was able to work with Republicans.

Even more, Richard Painter, who was a former chief ethics lawyer in the George W. Bush administration and endorsed Hillary Clinton last month, even feels that President Obama’s pick of Merrick Garland filling in former Justice Scalia’s spot in the Supreme Court is an acceptable goal.

Garland has been in the middle of a political tug-of-war with the administration and Republicans, who refuse to hold hearings to nominate him to the court, hoping the next president will be a Republican who will select a different justice, which was written about in an op-ed by Inquisitr.

Making sure he gets through, more than anything else, would be a strong indication to Republicans that she’s serious about going down the middle road.

As to the Republicans in congress, it’s almost impossible to know if there are going to be any changes when she gets elected. With the extreme right that Donald Trump is bringing along with him in his campaign, they are “deplorable” enough for her and her GOP supporters to work around-the-clock to get her elected for a chance to contribute to her administration, as they don’t see how they would even be of any value to a Donald Trump White House. That at least shows some that Hillary Clinton is making a bipartisan effort where it counts.
