NYC Offers Free Bike Helmets With Cool New Design

If you’ve ever visited New York City you’ve more than likely witnessed various bicycle riders weaving in and out of traffic. You’ve probably also noticed that many of those bikers don’t wear helmets. Now NYC is trying to change bikers attitudes by offering a more stylish helmet for bikers.

It appears that many bikers simply don’t like to wear helmets because their clunky and look like junk. So New York City officials commissioned what they deamed “Projectfuse Helmets” which brings a sense of style to the safety devices.

The new helmets are created with an inner polystyrene design that’s then covered with a piece of soft fabric which covers the outer part of the helmet and attaches with straps, that outer design is even customizable.

The helmets will eventually cost something, but for now there are various events around New York City which are offering a chance to grab one for free. [via Wired]
