Ian Somerhalder And Nikki Reed Split? Nina Dobrev’s Return To ‘The Vampire Diaries’ To Blame?

Are Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed headed for a split?

Divorce rumors have plagued the couple for months, and now that Nina Dobrev is returning to The Vampire Diaries, their marriage is reportedly on the verge of a breakdown.

Is Dobrev’s involvement in Season 8 of TVD to blame for Somerhalder’s failed marriage?

According to Movie News Guide, Somerhalder begged Dobrev to appear in the series finale to boost ratings for the show’s final season.

Somerhalder allegedly doesn’t have anything lined up in Hollywood once The Vampire Diaries wraps up and needs a little boost to strengthen his prospects.

Unfortunately, Reed wasn’t happy once she found out that Somerhalder desperately wanted to work with Dobrev again.

These reports have not been confirmed, though it is clear that Dobrev’s involvement in Season 8 will lead to higher ratings. After all, the show experienced significant drops in viewership after Dobrev left in Season 6.

And although producers thought that Somerhalder and Paul Wesley would anchor the show and keep it alive, the opposite happened. With Dobrev back in action, fans are expected to tune in large numbers once again.

Of course, that is if Dobrev is returning to the show at all.

The actress has not confirmed her involvement in Season 8 and has a very busy schedule with multiple upcoming movie projects.

Will she find time in her busy schedule for one last appearance on The Vampire Diaries?

According to Parent Herald, Dobrev is currently in negotiations with creator Julie Plec and is interested in reprising her role one last time.

Further, Dobrev and Somerhalder have reportedly reached an agreement on their past differences and are open to working together again.

Celeb Dirty Laundry is even reporting that Ian Somerhalder and Dobrev might appear together on future seasons of The Originals. If they have settled their differences, then this could be Somerhalder’s chance to extend his career.

As fans will recall, the two stars dated each other working on the show. Once their relationship ended, Dobrev called it quits and left The Vampire Diaries.

For his part, Somerhalder moved on and eventually married Reed.

Despite the rumors of an impending divorce, it seems as though Somerhalder’s relationship with Reed is actually stronger than it has ever been.

Not only is Reed perfectly okay with Somerhalder working with Dobrev on the final season, but she is also teaming up with Somerhalder to help victims of the flooding in Louisiana.

With a new project to work on, Somerhalder and Reed appear more than happy together.

Meanwhile, Zap2it reports that producers have released the first official trailer for the upcoming season. (below) What can fans expect to unfold when The Vampire Diaries returns to The CW for its final year?

The trailer features Damon (Somerhalder) and Enzo (Michael Malarkey) in the murder warehouse, but this time, the bodies that are strung on hooks have been eaten down to the bone.

Has this season’s villain, Sybill (Nathalie Kelley), been snacking on the corpses?

Later, a woman figure emerges from a huge tank of blood, hinting that Damon and Enzo have been supplying her with human food.

At the same time, the trailer reveals that Mystic Falls’ new nanny, Seline (Kristen Gutoskie), might not get a happily ever after with Alaric (Matt Davis).

The clip shows a hand getting ready to slash Seline’s throat. Apart from a miraculous escape, it looks like Seline’s days are numbered.

Sadly, the trailer failed to reveal if Dobrev will make a surprise appearance this season. For now, it looks like fans will have to wait until the show returns to find out about her fate.

Season 8 of The Vampire Diaries is scheduled to premiere Oct. 21 on The CW.
